The Associatin of Sella Turcica Morphology and Dimension With Craniofacial and Dental Anomalies
(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2023) Tatlı, E.C.; Kaya, Y.; Tunca, M.
Sella turcica, which keeping the pituitary gland inside, is frequently used in cephalometric analysis during the orthodontic treatment planning because it can be easily detected in lateral cephalometric radiographs. Embryologically, the cartilage forming the anterior wall of the sella turcica develops from the neural crest cells. Similarly, it has been reported that the dental epithelial progenitor cells and maxillary, palatal and frontonasal development regions also generated from neural crest cells and these cells are effective in sella turcica bridging and tooth development and eruption. Thus, in the literature, the variations in sella turcica dimensions and morphology has been associated with different craniofacial and dental anomalies due to its relationship with pituitary gland, development origin, and anatomic position. At this point, the correct analysis of sella turcica, provide early diagnosis of the anomalies and pathologies that can be arise in the future. However, it has been observed that conflicting results were obtained from these studies in which subjects with different ethnical origin, age, and craniofacial morphologies were evaluated and different radiographic techniques were used. In this review, it was aimed to examine these studies which were evaluated the association of sella turcica dimensions and morphology with different craniofacial and dental anomalies. © 2023, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Evaluation of the Effects of Various Levels of Maxillary Incisor Protrusion on Upper Lip
(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2023) Tunca, M.; Tunca, Y.
Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of upper central incisors on the upper lip after fixed orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 30 individuals aged between 202 and 278 months whose lateral cephalometric radiographs were evaluated at the beginning and end of treatment were included. The study was divided into two groups: Group A, in which the upper incisors protruded by 0–1 mm, and Group B, in which they protruded by 1–3 mm. The soft tissue nasolabial angle, upper lip thickness, and upper lip protrusion values were compared at the beginning and end of treatment in both groups. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine the relationship between continuous variables, and Spearman correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between these variables. Results: The mean upper incisor protrusion was 0.49 ± 0. 3 mm for Group A and 2. 29 ± 0. 56 mm for Group B. The nasolabial angle was-0.57 ± 1. 13° in Group A and-3.78 ± 76° in Group B. The lip thickness was 0. 18 ± 0. 14 mm in Group A and-0.73 ± 0.49 mm in Group B. The upper lip protrusion was 0.34 ± 0.45 mm for Group A and 1. 48 ± 0. 45 mm for Group B. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups for all three values (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Upper incisor protrusion was used to determine a decrease in nasolabial angle and a decrease in upper lip protrusion. However, when the protrusion amount increased, a decrease in lip thickness was observed. © 2023, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. All rights reserved.

How Did the Covid-19 Pandemic Effect the Anxiety Levels of Individuals Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment
(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2023) Tunca, M.; Naiboglu, E.; Tunc, S.K.
In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the problems and anxiety levels of individuals who receive orthodontic treatment in a certain patient group during the pandemic period. For this research, a questionnaire with 20 questions about the treatment proc ess in pandemic conditions was designed. The questionnaires were conducted on 560 individuals who started orthodontic treatment six months before the declaration of the pandemic and continued their treatment throughout the pandemic. While evaluating the st udy data, descriptive statistical methods were used. Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact test was used to compare qualitative data. In our research, it was observed that 16.4% of the individuals participating in our study could not go to their routine controls for 1 to 1.5 months, 6.1% of them for 1.5 to 2 months, 7% of them 2 to 2.5 months and 28.4% for 3 months or more. It was observed that 44.1% (n=247) of the individuals did not need to communicate with their doctor. In addition, it was observed th at while 19.1% of individuals do not think that they have concerns about the prolongation of the treatment process due to the pandemic process; 15.2% of them rarely, 28% of them sometimes, 14.3% of them often, 23.4% of them always worry about this issue. It has been determined that individuals who receive orthodontic treatment during the pandemic period often disrupt their routine controls, and individuals generally experience anxiety about the prolongation of the treatment pro cess during the closure period. © 2023, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi.
