Article Comparison of Contents of Sugars, Organic Acids and Free Amino Acids in Raisins Obtained From Gök Üzüm (Vitis Vinifera L.)(Hohere Bundeslehranstalt und Bundesamt fur Wein- und Obstbau Klosterneuburg, 2023) Karakus, S.; Ates, F.; Keskin, N.; Turan, M.; Kaya, O.Raisins are known as an important source of many bioactive compounds such as organic acids, free amino acids, and sugars. In this study, oak ash and potassium carbonate solutions applied before drying were compared for their effects on the Gök Üzüm raisin, more specifically, its contents of organic acids, free amino acids, and sugar profile. The total acidity quantified in the samples of raisin, ranged from 20.30 to 117.08 ng/µL DW for the potassium dipping solution, while values ranged from 17.98 to 164.72 ng/µL DW for the oak ash dipping solution. In samples from either dip solution, serine was predominant, followed by alanine, asparagine, glutamine, aspartate, sarcosine, glutamate, and leucine, whereas gly-cine, arginine, proline, histidine, and valine were found to be the lowest amino acids. In the samples examined, fructose was the most abundant sugar, whereas the lowest sugars in raisins were xylose for oak ash application and galactose for potassium carbonate application. There was wide variation in the sugar profiles for both variants, with values ranging from 3043.48 to 0.71 g/100 g DW. Drying Gök Üzüm grapes after the treatment of oak ash dipping solution promotes a higher content of organic acids, amino acids and sugars as compared to drying after potassium carbonate solution treatments. These results could be used for the development of an attractive pre-drying solution in further studies for the production of both, raisins and perhaps other dried fruits. © 2023, Hohere Bundeslehranstalt und Bundesamt fur Wein- und Obstbau Klosterneuburg. Our study is the first study to investigate the protective effects of edaravone against the gentamicin-induced ototoxicity. We investigated the protective effect of intraperitoneal (i.p.) edaravone application against gentamicin-induced ototoxicity in guinea pigs. Methods: Fourteen guinea pigs were divided into two equal groups consisting of a control group and a study group. One-hundred sixty milligrams per kilogram subcutaneous gentamicin and 0.3 mL i.p. saline were applied simultaneously once daily to seven guinea pigs in the control group (group 1). One-hundred sixty milligrams per kilogram gentamicin was applied subcutaneously and 3 mg/kg edaravone was applied intraperitoneally once daily for 7 days simultaneously to seven guinea pigs in the study group (group 2). Following the drug application, auditory brainstem response measurements were performed for the left ear on the 3rd and 7th days. Results: Hearing threshold values of the group 1 and group 2 measured in the 3rd day of the study were detected as 57.14 4.88 and 82.86 +/- 7.56, respectively. This difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Hearing threshold values of the group 1 and group 2 measured in the 7th day of the study were detected as 87.14 +/- 4.88 and 62.86 +/- 4.88, respectively. This difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: A statistically significant difference between the average threshold values of edaravone-administered group 2 and that of group 1 without edaravone was found. These differences show that systemic edaravone administration could diminish ototoxic effects of gentamicin and the severity of the hearing loss.Conference Object A Destructive Urban Transformation Project Resulting With A Social Transformation Process in Ankara-Turkey(Elsevier France-editions Scientifiques Medicales Elsevier, 2011) Ilhan, I.; Yildirim, F.; Dertli, N.; Turan, M.; Tarihci, S.Article A Different Approach in Removal of Proximal Wharton’s Duct Stone: Case Report(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2017) Turan, M.; Ozkan, H.; Garca, M.F.; Cankaya, H.; Avcı, K.; Bozan, N.; Kıroglu, A.F.We aimed to approach with a different surgical technique to stone excision far from orifice in Wharton duct. A 51-year-old female patient admitted to our clinic with the complaints of pain and swelling at the right of mouth floor and especially swelling during nutrition at the inferior of right jaw. In the intra oral examination; a large, sensitive with palpation, sides are erythematous solid mass in the right submandibular canal region was detected. In the ultrasonography examination, left submandibular gland was found significantly heterogeneous and 1 cm in diameter hyperechoic posterior shade showing stone at approximately 10 mm distance to Wharton duct was visualized. Sialolithiasis treatment varies according to the localization of the stone, duration of the symptoms, frequency of repetition and size of the stone. Either conservative or surgical techniques can be used for treatment. Surgically, either intraoral or extraoral approaches can be used. In our case, after removing the stone from the distal part of Wharton duct, original orifice of the duct was deactivated and distal part of the duct was marsupialised to mouth floor. Saliva discharge was seen from the new orifice inside the mouth at the postoperative 3rd week of the case. More clinical studies with increased numbers of cases are needed for accurate results of the treatment method. © 2017, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. The trial was laid out in split-split block design with three replications. Chickpea variety was applied on three different sulfur levels (0, 50 and 100 kg ha-1), phosphorus levels (0, 40 and 80 kg ha-1) and inoculation (inoculated and uninoculated). Whereas the highest grain yield were obtained from 80 kg ha-1 P with 819 kg ha-1 from 100 kg ha-1 S with 758 and from inoculation with 723 kg ha-1. In the first year, they were obtained from 80 kg ha-1 P with 879 kg ha-1 from 100 kg ha-1 S with 818 and from inoculation with 784 kg ha-1 in the second year. Nutrient uptake by grain of chickpea significantly increased due to sulfur doses, except for P uptake in grain at the year of 2004 and S uptake in grain at the year of 2005. Sulfur application significantly increased the uptake of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in grain in the both years. The effects of different doses of phosphorus application on nutrient uptakes by grain were found to be statistically significant in both years. © 2008 Academic Journals.Article Mortality and Severity Related Factors During the Admission: H1n1 Pneumonia(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2018) Yıldız, H.; Ekin, S.; Arısoy, A.; Akdeniz, H.; Gümrükçüoğlu, H.A.; Aşker, S.; Turan, M.In our country, fatal cases of H1N1 pneumonia were detected between 2015-2016 years. Our aim is to analyze the mortality and severity related factors, during admission of these patients. By conducting a retrospective analysis, 17 cases, confirmed to have H1N1 pneumonia, included in the study. Findings were compared in terms of ARDS and mortality. ICU and hospital mortality rates were 50% and 30%. The mean age of patients was 50 years. Serum LDH, CK, CK-MB, CRP AST, ALT levels, and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were found to be increased. In terms of co infections, there wasn't a significant difference between died and survived patients. The mortality rate was 50% in patients with ARDS. There was no relationship between hospital stay with mortality. The symptom of restlessness was related to mortality, and presence of ARDS (P<.05). In died and alive patients, the mean-ranks of PaO2, SpO2, and CURB-65 scores were 3.5, 9.7, 4.3, 10.96, 14.6, and 6.6, respectively (P<.05). PaO2 and SpO2 values were lower, and CURB-65 scores were higher in dead patients. SpO2 <79.5, PaO2 <62.5, and CURB-65 scores ≥2 were related to mortality (P<.05). However, CURB-65 <2 did not exclude severe pneumonia. There was no relationship between comorbid diseases and mortality. The main radiographic finding was bilateral infiltrates. This study suggests that PaO2, SpO2, and CURB scores of ≥2 and the presence of restlessness can be used to predict the severity and mortality in patients suspected to have H1N1 pneumonia, during admission. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. However, the biological nitrogen fixation via symbiotic and nonsymbiotic bacteria can play a significant role in increasing soil fertility and crop productivity, thereby reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. It is well known that a considerable number of bacterial species, mostly those associated with the plant rhizosphere, are able to exert a beneficial effect on plant growth. The use of those bacteria, often called plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), as biofertilizers in agriculture has been the focus of research for several years. The beneficial impact of PGPR is due to direct plant growth promotion by the production of growth regulators, enhanced access to soil nutrients, disease control, and associative nitrogen fixation. Legumes play a crucial role in agricultural production due to their capability to fix nitrogen in association with rhizobia. Inoculation with nodule bacteria called rhizobia has been found to increase plant growth and seed yields in many legume species such as chickpea, common bean, lentil, pea, soybean, and groundnut. However, both rhizobia and legumes suffer heavily and adversely from various abiotic factors. The impact of different stress factors on both PGPR and legume production is critically reviewed and discussed. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.Article The Relationship Between the Abo Blood Group and Tumor Diameters in Patients With Carotid Body Tumors(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2018) Bozan, N.; Duzenli, U.; Arı, M.; Turan, M.; Kıroglu, A.F.; Aslan, M.Several studies have assessed the association between blood group of ABO and many cancer types. Nevertheless, there was no data regarding the connection between blood group of ABO and tumor diameters in carotid body tumors (CBTs) patients. The purpose of our study was to analyse possible association between tumor diameters and gender, ABO blood group in CBTs patients compared to healthy controls. The demographic and laboratory data of 65 CBTs patients (57 females and 8 males) who underwent surgical intervention and 65 healthy controls (52 females and 13 males) were retrospectively analyzed. The mean age of CBTs patients was 51.81±9.82 years, and the mean age of the healthy subjects was 52.72±8.50 years. There were no statistically significant difference between two groups with regard to age and gender. The mean of tumor diameters was 3.72±1.50 cm (range=1-8 cm). There was no statistically significant difference between study groups according to AB0 blood group (p=0.87). The females/males ratio of patients was 57/8. The mean tumor diameters of females was 3.57±1.34 cm and the mean tumor diameters of males was 4.77±2.16 cm; the difference was statistically significant (p=0.03). There was a positive correlation between male gender and the tumor diameters (r=0.23, p=0.03). This is the first report investigating association between the tumor diameters and AB0 blood group in CBTs. Although CBTs were shown higher in females, tumor diameters were found significantly higher in males tha n females. However, we did not determine any association between AB0 blood group and tumor diameters. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. In addition to otologic diseases; mood disorders, inflammatory diseases, thromboembolic pathologies may lead to tinnitus. Mean platelet volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) were investigated as biomarkers in tinnitus patients. In this study, we aimed to find whether there is any association between these biomarkers and bilateral tinnitus patients. Fifty eight with tinnitus and 58 healthy subjects were included to the study. The distribution of age and sex in each group were equal. Hearing thresholds of tinnitus patients were obtained with pure-tone audiometry. Hematologic values were evaluated in each group and correlation between these values and audiometric data were investigated in tinnitus patients. PDW values of the tinnitus group were found statistically significantly higher than those in control group (p=0.041). NLR was found lower in tinnitus patients and it was statistically significant (p=0.001). MPV values were found similar in each group. In tinnitus group there were no correlation between hematologic values and audiometric data. In this study, we found blood marker value alterations in bilateral tinnitus patients, but there was no correlation with audiologic data. And so we need larger studies to obtain more significant results. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between OSA and fatty liver. Material/Methods: We enrolled 176 subjects to this study who underwent polysomnography (PSG) for suspected OSA. The control group included 42 simple snoring subjects. PSG, biochemical tests, and ultrasonographic examination were performed all subjects. Results: The simple snoring and mild, moderate, and severe OSA groups included 18/42 (42.86%), 33/52 (63.5%), 27/34 (79.4%), and 28/48 (79.2%) subjects with hepatosteatosis, respectively. There were significant differences in hepatosteatosis and hepatosteatosis grade between the simple snoring and the moderate and severe OSA groups. Logistic regression analysis showed that BMI and average desaturation were independently and significantly related to hepatic steatosis. Conclusions: Our study shows that BMI and the average desaturation contribute to non-alcoholic fatty liver in subjects with OSA. In this regard, sleep apnea may trigger metabolic mitochondrial energy associated processes thereby altering lipid metabolism and obesity as well. © Med Sci Monit, 2016.Article Subcutaneous Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans in Parotid Region: Case Report(2013) Garça, M.F.; Kösem, M.; Turan, M.; Bozan, N.; Çankaya, H.Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a low-grade soft tissue sarcoma (fibrosarcoma) originated from dermal and subdermal layer of the skin. But subcutaneous localization is quite rare. It is one of the rare tumors and accounts for 0.1% of all malignancies. The tumor infiltrates into the deeps in the villous and finger shape. For this reason, it is quite difficult to get surgical margins in the tumor excision and the recurrence is a problem encountered frequently. An excision or Mohs technique of micrographic surgery is suggested by leaving a surgical space up to 5 cm from the tumor margines. In this case report, a case with DFSP atypically subcutaneous localized on superficial parotis gland was presented. It should be kept in mind that probability of the microscopic spread is high in these patients and they should be followed by reminding that the disease can recur in the following long years.
