Article Factors Affecting Household Housing Mobility: the Case of Ankara(Kare Publ, 2017) Eceral, Tanyel Ozelci; Ugurlar, AysuHousehold housing mobility, which reflects social, economic, and spatial aspects of housing, is one of the most important determinants of housing demand. Household mobility is related to factors such as life course/life cycle, housing profile, and the preferences/satisfaction of an individual or household. The aim of this study is to examine factors affecting household mobility in the metropolitan of Ankara. Data acquired from a 534-unit household survey in neighborhoods of Ankara's metropolitan districts that were selected to represent the varied socioeconomic structure of the city were evaluated with descriptive statistics and factor analysis. According to the results of factor analysis, the economic structure of households, life course variables, housing profile, and location were the factors affecting household mobility in Ankara. Our results indicated that while rental housing stands out through the household mobility phases, the time span of living in a house decreases through mobility phases. Life course effects influence household mobility rather than life cycle effects and preferences/satisfaction factors as mobility phases proceed.Article Motivations of Tenancy and the Diversity of Tenants: the Case of Ankara, Turkey(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Ugurlar, Aysu; Eceral, Tanyel OzelciMotivations of tenancy could be related to economic, social and spatial issues, such as, lifecycle/life course, affordability and accessibility. This implies the diversity of tenants living in cities. Ankara, as the capital and the second biggest metropolitan city of Turkey, has a high proportion of tenants. In this study, the diversity of tenants and motivations for tenancy in Ankara is investigated with a socio-demographic, economic and locational perspective, analyzing the reasons for housing mobility and preference of the current house, and the variables affecting the diversification of tenants, according to income level through a survey of 475 households. Considering the evidences of the case study, lifecycle/life course issues have an important role in the choice of tenancy, while economic affordability is a major reason for the housing mobility of tenant households. The diversity of tenants in Ankara is categorized as "temporary" who benefit from educational and employment facilities of the city; "semi-permanent" characterized by the households who prefer to live as a tenant; and "persistent", characterized by low-income households who do not have the opportunity to purchase a house. As a conclusion, the importance of developing rental housing strategies especially aiming the low-income households is emphasized.Article Post-Disaster Permanent Housing and Life Satisfaction in Van, Turkey: Impacts of Housing Satisfaction, Socioeconomic and Demographic Factors(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2026) Ugurlar, Aysu; Gokler, Leyla Alkan; Cenesiz, Gaye ZeynepThis study investigates the factors influencing life satisfaction among residents of post-disaster permanent housing in Van, Turkey, following the 2011 earthquake. Data were collected through a survey of 382 households across five districts, examining socioeconomic factors, housing satisfaction, and their impact on overall life satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis revealed that income, satisfactions from housing attributes, neighborhood characteristics and social activities, and demographic factors significantly influence residents' life satisfaction. Households facing fewer difficulties meeting housing expenditures reported higher levels of life satisfaction. The study highlights that both objective housing attributes, such as housing quality, and subjective perceptions, such as neighborhood satisfaction and sense of community, significantly influence residents' overall life satisfaction. These findings, consistent with existing research, underscore the importance of addressing socioeconomic disparities and improving housing quality to enhance residents' well-being. The study emphasizes the need to incorporate residents' needs and preferences into post-disaster permanent housing policies to promote successful resettlement and ensure the long-term well-being of disaster-affected communities.Article User Satisfaction in Urban Parks: Ankara Kugulu Park Case(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2017) Gurer, Nilufer; Ugurlar, AysuUrban open spaces and green areas, particularly urban parks, are the most critical areas for meeting people's physical and psychological needs, as well as improving the users' quality of life in urban areas by creating places for people to escape from the artificially built environment. The user density is defined by the activity opportunities that are served by urban parks and the location and accessibility of the parks. Moreover, these factors are also effective for defining the level of user satisfaction. Within the scope of the present study Kugulu Park, which caters to different social groups and is well known to urban inhabitants, is studied. This park is an important example for the city, considering it is used densely yearlong despite limited activity opportunities owing to its limited area. While querying user satisfaction, the constraints and user expectations are introduced in this study. The findings indicate that user satisfaction is more related to the quality and density of green areas, the quality of the provided services, and the cleanness and maintenance level of the park in comparison to the size of the park and activities provided. Thus, the results support the importance of small, high-quality, functional green urban spaces at remote locations compared to easy-to-access, largescale leisure areas downtown.
