Article Ab Initio Study of Li2cata2o7 Compound: Electronic and Optical Properties for Three Phases(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2019) Aycibin, MuratThe Li2CaTa2O7 compound belongs to the Ruddlesden-Popper family of layered perovskites. First principle approximation was used to investigate the electronic band structure and optical properties of the compound for three phases. Independent of the studied compound's structural type, Li2CaTa2O7 has semiconductor behavior and direct transition. In addition, the forbidden energy band gap of the compound decreases with rising temperature, as expected. Furthermore, the 3d orbital of Ca contributes to the conduction band due to the crystal field effect. Moreover, the optical response of the chosen axes of the compound to incoming electromagnetic rays varies with phase transition.Article Ağaç Malzemede Renk Açma İşlemleri ve Verniklerin Renk Değiştirici Etkileri(1999) Özçifçi, Ayhan; Atar, Musa; Sönmez, Abdullah; Uysal, BurhanettinBu araştırmada, sarıçam (Pinus silvestris I), Doğu kayını (Fagus Orientalis lipsky), dişbudak (Fraxinus excelsior I.) ve sapsız meşe (Quercus petraea spp.) üzerinde, sodyum hidroksit + hidrojen peroksit, sodyum hidroksit + kalsiyum hidroksit + hidrojen peroksit, hipoklorit ve hidroklorik asitin renk açma uygunlukları belirlenmiştir. The inflammatory process and its complex mechanisms have recently become a focus of interest for many researchers. After the onset of inflammation, various adverse conditions that initiate the inflammatory response need to be addressed; however, failure to limit the inflammatory reaction may result in the damage or destruction of host cells. Therefore, inflammatory reactions play a role in many different diseases. Aquaporins (AQPs), commonly referred to as water channels, are protein channels responsible for forming pores in the membranes of biological cells. Their main function is to aid in the movement of water between cells. Aquaporins not only regulate transepithelial fluid transport across membranes but also play a role in regulating essential events crucial for the inflammatory response. Aquaporins have been shown in many studies to have important roles in inflammatory diseases. This clearly indicates that AQPs may be potential targets for inflammatory diseases. This review summarizes the research to date on the structure and function of AQPs and provides an update on the relationship between AQPs and various human inflammatory diseases.Other Arpada Terpal Bitki Büyüme Regülatörünün Verim ve Verim Ögelerine Etkisi(1997) Ege, Hatice; Sönmez, Fahri; Okut, Hayrettin-Article Assessment of Gingival Biotype and Keratinized Gingival Width of Maxillary Anterior Region in Individuals With Different Types of Malocclusion(Aves Press Ltd, 2018) Alkan, Ozer; Kaya, Yesim; Alkan, Eylem A.; Keskin, Siddik; Cochran, David L.Objective: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the relationship of gingival thickness and width of keratinized gingiva with different malocclusion groups and amount of crowding. Methods: A total of 181 periodontally healthy subjects were enrolled in the present study. The study participants were divided into three malocclusion groups: Angle Class I, Angle Class II, and Angle Class III.Each group was divided into subgroups according to the amount of dental crowding, namely mild, moderate, and severe. The width of keratinized gingiva was calculated as the distance between mucogingival junction and free gingival margin, whereas gingival thickness was determined by a transgingival probing technique. Results:Tooth numbers 13 and 23 were observed to have thin gingival biotype. The width of keratinized gingiva for tooth numbers 13 and 23 was narrower in the severe crowding group than in the moderate and mild crowding groups. The relationship of gingival thickness and width of keratinized gingiva with Angle classification was not found to be significant. Conclusion: Although it is thought that there is a relationship between gingival thickness, width of keratinized gingiva, and Angle classification with regard to malaligned teeth, this cross-sectional evaluation of 181 patients failed to show a significant relationship.Article Bazı Çilek Çeşitlerinde Çiçek Tozu Üretim Miktarları ve Çimlenme Oranlarının Belirlenmesi Üzerinde Bir Araştırma(2000) Aşkın, M. Atilla; Yılmaz, Hüdai; Koyuncu, Fatma-Article Biogenic Amines Contents of Van Herby Cheese Matured by Different Methods(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2021) Bozkurt, Rumeysa; Altun, IbrahimIn this study, biogenic amines levels of Van herby cheese (Van Otlu peynir) matured in dry-salted/filling (basin a) and brine (salamura)-salted techniques were investigated. For this purpose, a total of 100 herby cheese samples matured by dry-salted and brine-salted techniques (50 dry-salted and 50 brine-salted) were purchased from the grocery stores in Van province, and chemical characteristics and biogenic amines contents of the samples were determined. The mean chemical composition for Van herby cheese matured by dry-salted method and brine-salted methods were, respectively, as follows: pH value 4.62 and 5.16, acidity 1.50% and 1.08%, salt content 7.85% and 7.15%, dry matter content 59.07% and 49.22%, fat 27.00% and 23.43%, protein content 23.39% and 17.17% and protein hydrolysis of 100.92 mM and 79.57 mM, indicating that dry-salted Van herby cheese had significantly lower pH values and significantly greater acidity and protein, dry matter, and fat content than brine-salted Van herby cheese (P < 0.05). In addition, only the tyramine levels were significantly greater in the dry-salted group than the brine-salted group approximately twice high (P < 0.001). In terms of the other biogenic amines, no significant difference was found between two groups (P > 0.05). In conclusion, none of the biogenic amines levels measured in Van herby cheese produced by both techniques were above the levels considered to be dangerous for human health. More detailed research is needed to better elucidate the importance of present findings in terms of human health.Article Chalcalburnus Tarichi Pallas, 1811 (Cyprinidae)' de Sindirim Sistemi ve Yüzme Kesesi Gelişiminin Histolojik Olarak İncelenmesi(2001) Elp, Mahmut; Kankaya, Ertuğrul; Çetinkaya, Osman; Ünal, GülerThe histological development of the digestive system and swim bladder of Chalcalburnus tarichi larvae and their histology in adults were studied under light microscopy. After hatching, the digestive tract is a simple undifferentiated tube. Exogenous feeding started on the 6th day. The yolk sac was absorbed completely on the 9th day. The goblet cells appeared first in the bucco-pharyngeal cavity and oesophagus on the 4th day, in the anterior on the 9th day and in the posterior intestine on the 5th day. The digestive tract was differentiated as the buccal cavity, pharynx, oesophagus post-eosophageal swelling and intestine on the 5th day. At the same time, taste buds and pharyngeal teeth also started to form. In the oesophagus, the circular muscle was observed on the 9th day and the longitudinal muscle in one-year-old fish. In the intestine, the circular muscle was observed on the 35th day and the longitudinal muscle in two-year-old individuals. The wall of the digestive tract is composed of epithelial, submucosa, muscle and serosa layers. The liver lobules formed on the 3rd day and the cells began to reserve glycogen on the 10th day. The pancreatic acina formed on the 5th day and the tubular in one-year-old fish. The liver and pancreas ducts opened into the anterior intestine before the exogenous feeding started. The swim bladder was observed as one lobuled on the 4.5th day and two lobuled on the 35th day.Article Characterization of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Communities Associated With Vineyards in Northwestern Iran(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2022) Rezaee Danesh, Younes; Kariman, Khalil; Keskin, Nurhan; Najafi, SolmazArbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) establish beneficial symbiotic associations with plants, enhancing their nutrient uptake, growth, and stress tolerance. The present study was aimed to investigate AMF spore density, species composition, mycorrhizal colonization patterns, and correlation of these indices with soil physicochemical parameters at four vineyards located in one of the most important grape-producing regions of Iran (West Azerbaijan province). Forty-three soil samples were collected from four grape-producing regions during July-August 2019. The total spore abundance ranged from 39-647 spores per 100 g dry soil. Twelve AMF species, representing six genera (Rhizophagus, Funneliformis, Glomus, Septoglomus, Claroideoglomus, and Scutellospora) were identified. Rhizophagus fasciculatus was the most frequently found species, with a frequency of 75%. Two of the identified species, G. glomerulatum and Scutellospora calospora are new for the mycoflora of Iran. Significant negative correlations were detected between AMF attributes [spore density, AMF colonization frequency (F%) as well as AMF colonization intensity (M%)] and soil phosphorus content. The results provide insights into the AMF communities and dynamics in vineyards as influenced by soil parameters, improving our understanding of soil biological fertility in grape production systems.Article A Checklist of Macrofungi of Besni (Adiyaman) District(2004) Kaya, A.; Akan, Z.; Demirel, K.Field studies were carried out in the Besni district between 2001 and 2002, and macrofungi samples were collected. Five species belonging to the genus Balantidium were distinguished. Of these, one new species was recognized, described as Balantidium vanensis n. sp. This study reports for the first time the presence of B. helenae, B. claperedei and B. giganteum in the digestive system of R. ridibunda. These species are also new records for the protozoan fauna of Turkey. There was only B. duodeni in the duodenum and B. elongatum in the intestinal part next to the duodenum. The species of the genus Balantidium in the rectum constituted 50.21% of B. helenae, 28.41% of B. claperedei, 9.06% of B. vanensis, 7.16% B. elongatum and 4.98% of B. giganteum. The species determined in the study were compared with the available information in the original descriptions and the previous reports and the similarities and differences were discussed. It was determined that the digestive system microfauna of the genus Balantidium from R. ridibunda in Van is similar to the fauna of Asiatic frogs in terms of diversity.Article The Cissoid of Diocles in the Lorentz-Minkowski Plane(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2019) Baydas, Senay; Karakas, BulentThis article presents the cissoid of Diodes and the cissoid of two circles with respect to origin in the Lorentz-Minkowski plane.Article A Class of Banach Algebras Whose Duals Have the Schur Property(1999) Mustafayev, H.; Ülger, A.Call a commutative Banach algebra A a γ-algebra if it contains a bounded group Λ such that aco(Λ) contains a multiple of the unit ball of A. In this paper, first by exhibiting several concrete examples, we show that the class of γ-algebras is quite rich. Then, for a γ-algebra A, we prove that A* has the Schur property iff the Gelfand spectrum Σ of A is scattered iff A* = ap(A) iff A* = Span(Σ). © TÜBİTAK.Article Comparative Morphological and Anatomical Studies of Hymenocrater Bituminosus Fisch. and C.a. Methods: One porcelain (Vitadur Alpha (VA)) and three composite (Filtek Ultimate (FU), Tetric EvoCeram (TEC), and Gradia Direct Anterior (GDA)) materials were evaluated in the present study. First, 10 discs from each material were prepared and subjected to the aging procedure for 5 years. Then, for comparison, another 10 discs from each material were prepared as fresh surfaces and stored in distilled water for 24 h. Metal brackets were bonded to the prepared disc surfaces, and after being stored in water for 24 h, they were subjected to shear bond test using a universal testing machine. Adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores were obtained by examining the disc surfaces under a stereomicroscope at 10x magnification. Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the aged and fresh groups. Results: Although the difference between the SBS between the aged and fresh groups with VA, FU, and TEC was not significant, the SBS was significantly higher in the fresh group with GDA. With regard to ARI scores, there was no significant difference between the aged and fresh groups with FU and GDA, whereas the ARI scores of the aged groups with VA and TEC were higher. Conclusion: It was concluded that the aged restoration materials have a distinctive influence on the SBS of metal orthodontic brackets.Article Comparison of Two Retention Appliances With Respect To Clinical Effectiveness(Aves, 2019) Kaya, Yesim; Tunca, Murat; Keskin, SiddikObjective: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical effectiveness of Essix and Hawley retainers during the retention period. Methods: A total of 30 subjects whose fixed orthodontic treatment results were evaluated according to the American Board of Orthodontics Phase III Objective Grading system were included in this study. After the removal of orthodontic attachments, the study participants were equally divided into two retention protocols: upper-lower Essix and upper-lower Hawley. The subjects were instructed to wear their retainers full time for 6 months, except during meals, and during nights only for 6 months. The clinical effectiveness of the retainers was evaluated according to the overjet, overbite, maxillary, and mandibular intercanine widths, intermolar widths, arch lengths, irregularity indexes, and lateral cephalometric measurements. All dental model and lateral cephalometric measurements were performed by the same investigator during three periods: pre-treatment, post-treatment, and post-retention. Results: The overjet, overbite, maxillary, and mandibular intercanine widths; intermolar widths; and arch lengths and lateral cephalometric measurements were not statistically significantly different between the groups and identified time periods. Although the maxillary and mandibular irregularity indexes increased from the post-treatment to post-retention periods, the difference was not statistically significant. Pre-treatment, post-treatment, and post-retention lateral cephalometric measurements were not statistically significantly different between and within the groups. Conclusion: According to the results of a repeated-measures analysis of variance with two factors, and although an increase was found in the maxillary and mandibular irregularity indexes, the clinical effectiveness of Essix and Hawley retainers was found to be similar during the retention period.Article Contributions To the Macrofungi Flora of Gümüşhane Province(2006) Uzun, Y.; Keleş, A.; Demirel, K.Some macrofungi specimens were collected from Gümüşhane province between 2001 and 2003. It suppresses appetite by acting on the hypothalamus, andits derived peptide, nesfatin-1, was shown to reduce food intake and body weight in rodents. In this study, we examined NUCB2 peptide levels in correlation with body weight, length and gender in adult Alburnus tarichi fish. Serum NUCB2 levels were measured with ELISA, and were observed to significantly vary depending on gender: 0.43 +/- 0.17 ng/mL in the males (n=6) and 0.28 +/- 0.11 ng/ml in the females (n= 6) (p<0.05). However, NUCB2 levels were not significantly correlated to body weight (r=-0.08, p=0.7) or length (r=-0.16, p= 0.6). NUCB2/nesfatin, an appetiteregulation hormone, was therefore shown to be impacted by gender but not by body weight or length in A. tarichi.
