Abstract
Archaeological protected areas are places that should be transferred to the future with their natural, historical and cultural values. These areas should be handled with a holistic approach, they should be included in the local public planning processes, and their sustainability should be ensured by keeping the Hoşap Castle and its surroundings alive. The main material of the study; Hosap Castle, located in the Hoşap (Guzelsu) District area of Van Gürpınar district, constitutes the region and its surroundings within the 1 nd and 3nd Degree Archaeological Sites. In the study, the characteristics of the natural, physical, cultural and settlement texture of Hoşap Castle and its surroundings were examined. On-site observations and field analyzes were made in the area, and the physical characteristics of the settlement, its architectural and settlement texture were examined. GZFT analysis was carried out within the framework of the natural and cultural values of the area. With this analysis, the strengths and weaknesses of the study area were determined, and the opportunities and threats were determined. By determining the needs of the area with on-site observations, literature surveys, interviews with the local people and the contributions of academicians, for the study area within the archaeological site, a sustainable use and a holistic conservation approach that will develop the local people and meet the needs of the visitors is sustainable. Suggestions for increasing tourism activities were presented.
