Turkey in Iraqi Newspapers 1960-1980

Abstract

Ülkeler arasındaki ilişkiler; siyasi, ekonomik, sosyal ve yönleri de dahil olmak üzere bu komşu ülkeleri birbirine bağlayan çeşitli ilişkiler ve bağlar nedeniyle özellikle modern ve çağdaş tarih alanında akademik çalışmalarda araştırmacıları çalışmalara yöneltmektedir. Bu konudaki araştırmanın önemi, materyalini yayınlandıkları ülkelerdeki hükümetlerin, resmi kurumların, partilerin ve siyasi akımların sesini temsil eden basından aldığından daha da artmaktadır. İki komşu ülke olan Türkiye ve Irak arasındaki ilişkileri ve bağları konu edinen bu çalışmanın 1960-1980 dönemi için Irak yerel gazeteleri aracılığıyla önemini görmekteyiz. Bu çalışma, konunun esası ve çeşitli yönleriyle ilgilenen bir giriş ve üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Önsöz, Türkiye ile Irak arasındaki ilişkilerin tarihsel çerçevesini netleştirmeye, yirminci yüzyılın ikinci on yılının sonunda kurulan iki ülke arasındaki ortak bağları incelemeye, 1958 yılına kadar Türkiye ile Irak arasındaki en belirgin ortak noktaları göstermeye ayrılmıştır. Birinci bölüm, Türkiye ve Irak'taki darbelerin gazetelere yansımalarını ele alıyor. İkinci bölüm ise: 1960-1980 Yılları Arası Ekonomik İşbirliği Alanında Türkiye-Irak ilişlilerini değerlendirmektedir ve iki konudan oluşmaktadır: Üçüncü ve son bölüm ise, Irak basınında Türkiye ve dış ilişkilerinin incelenmesine ayrılmıştır. Bu da iki konudan oluşmaktadır. İlki Kıbrıs sorunu ve bunun Türk-Yunan ilişkilerine etkisi olup İkinci konu: Türkiye'nin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ve NATO'ya yönelik dış politikası başağındadır. Bu, çalışma ve analiz modelleri olarak, Irak yerel basınında, özellikle El-Cumhuriyet gazetesi, El-Savra gazetesi, El-Attaakhi gazetesi, El- Irak gazetesi, El-Zaman gazetesi ve El-Beled gazetesi gibi Irak basını okumaları ile yapılmıştır.Relations between countries have always attracted the attention of researchers. The newspapers of the countries are very important in revealing these relations. Because the press represents the voice of governments, official institutions, parties and political movements in countries. We tried to analyze this study, which deals with the relations and ties between the two neighboring countries, Turkey and Iraq, through Iraqi newspapers. This study consists of an introduction and three main titles that deal with the essence and various aspects of the subject. In the introduction part, the historical framework of the relations between Turkey and Iraq is analyzed. At the same time, brief information about the newspapers used in the study is given. The first main title, which constitutes one of the three main parts, is coups from the perspective of the Iraqi press. Both Turkey's approach to the coups in Iraq and the 27 May 1960 and 12 March 1971 coups were discussed through the Iraqi press. The second title was devoted to economic news about Turkey in Iraqi newspapers between 1960 and 1979. Some news that are considered important about oil, gas, agriculture and animal husbandry are evaluated in this section. However, since the subject of the study is Turkey, important visits from Turkey to Iraq and some discourses between the two countries have also been conveyed. However, relations between the two countries have not always been positive. In order to show this, some news about the water crisis are also discussed in this section. The third and last part is devoted to Turkey's foreign relations in the Iraqi press. In this title, the Cyprus dispute in the Iraqi press, Turkey's intervention in Cyprus and its effect on Turkish-Greek relations, Turkey-US relations and news about NATO are discussed. The main part of this study consisted of Iraqi newspapers such as Al-Joumhouria, Al-Thawra, Al-Attaakhi, Al-Iraq, Al-Zaman and Al-Beled. For this reason, the perception of Turkey in the Iraqi press has been tried to be revealed, mostly on the axis of the news in the Iraqi newspaper.
