Problems Faced in the Social Field by Families With Individuals With Special Needs: Van City Center Example

Abstract

Bu tezin konusu engelli bireylere sahip ailelerin toplumsal alanda karşılaştıkları sorunlar ve maruz kaldıkları sosyal dışlanma olgusudur. Toplumun dezavantajlı grubunu oluşturan engelliler; eğitim, sağlık, ekonomi, ulaşım, toplumsal kabul gibi alanlarda çeşitli bariyerlerle karşılaşmaktadır. Engelli bireylerin ve ailelerin karşılaştıkları güçlüklerin ortadan kaldırılması ve çözüm üretilmesi gerekmektedir. Araştırma kapsamında Van Kent Merkezinde ikamet eden engelli bireylerin aileleri ile derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. 30 aile üyesi ile gerçekleştirilen nitel görüşme sonucunda ailelerin engelli bireye sahip olmalarından dolayı yaşadıkları problemler incelenmiştir. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımıyla yürütülen çalışmada, veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Çalışmanın kuramsal temelini, sosyal model üzerinden Sosyal Dışlanma ve İnsan Hakları Modeli oluşturmaktadır. Engellilik olgusu çalışmada sosyal çevre ve engelli bireylerin hakları üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın bulgular kısmında elde edilen veriler incelendiğinde, engelli bireye sahip ailelerin toplumsal alanda farklı sorunlar yaşadıkları ve bunların da özellikle sosyal dışlanma, sosyal uyum ile birlikte; yalnızlık, ötekileştirilme, sosyal aktivitelere zaman ayıramama ve gelecek kaygısı gibi sorunlar oldukları görülmüştür.

The subject of this thesis is the problems faced by families with disabled individuals in the social sphere and the phenomenon of social exclusion they are exposed to. Disabled people, who constitute the disadvantaged group of society; It faces various barriers in areas such as education, health, economy, transportation and social acceptance. The difficulties faced by disabled individuals and families need to be eliminated and solutions must be produced. Within the scope of the research, in-depth interviews were held with the families of disabled individuals residing in Van City Center. As a result of the qualitative interview conducted with 30 family members, the problems experienced by families due to having a disabled person were examined. In the study conducted with a qualitative research approach, data were collected with a semi-structured interview form. The theoretical basis of the study is the Social Exclusion and Human Rights Model through the social model. The phenomenon of disability is discussed in the study through the social environment and the rights of disabled individuals. When the data obtained in the findings section of the study is examined, it can be seen that families with disabled individuals experience different problems in the social sphere and that these problems, especially with social exclusion and social adaptation; It has been observed that they have problems such as loneliness, marginalization, not being able to spare time for social activities and anxiety about the future.
