Abstract

Ozalp District is a district of Van Province in Eastern Anatolian Region Van Area. In this study, ownership status of agricultural lands, parcel size in Ozalp and herbal farming in the district have been examined. While almost all farmer families have farming land, it is seen that farming lands are small seized and sectional. Average height in the district is higher and continental climate is available. Owing to the climate conditions, number of the farming herbs is low. In the district, cereals such as wheat and barley and forage crops such as clover and trefoil are known as main agricultural products. Areas for industrial plants and vegetable farming in the district are very narrow. Livelihoods are narrow in Ozalp so, population living in the rural areas of the district immigrates to several cities notably to the west region cities in the country. Some new practices and projects are needed to be implemented to increase the income of population living in the district. Consolidation of the agricultural lands, using crop rotation instead of fallowing, increasing the watering opportunities, ground care, seed breeding and fertilization additional to breeding of cattle and sheep animal ancestry, improving alternative livelihoods such as beekeeping and aquaculture are examples for these innovations and projects. We hope that the study will contribute the increasing the vegetative and animal production in Ozalp District so contribute to income increasing of families in the rural area.
