The Effect of the Web Assisted Accurate and Speed Reading Program on the Reading Skills of Primary School Students

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, Web Destekli Doğru ve Hızlı Okumayı Geliştirme Programı'nın (DHOGP) ilkokul öğrencilerinin okuma becerisi üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda araştırmada 'Öntest – Sontest Kontrol Gruplu Deneysel Model' kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2021 – 2022 eğitim öğretim yılının ilk yarıyılında Van ili Çaldıran ilçesindeki Atatürk İlkokulu'nda öğrenim gören 2. sınıf öğrencileri (n=40) oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında oluşturulan deney (n=20) ve kontrol (n=20) grupları yansız atama ile seçilmiştir. Bir deney ve bir kontrol grubunun yer aldığı çalışmada deney grubuna Türkçe ders programında yer alan etkinliklerin yanında Web destekli içeriklerle oluşturulmuş DHOGP uygulanırken, kontrol grubuna sadece Türkçe ders programında yer alan etkinlikler uygulanmıştır. Hazırlanan program haftada 5 ders saati olmak üzere 6 hafta boyunca uygulanmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında hazırlanan program bir web sitesi ile desteklenmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri okuma hızı ölçümleri, doğru okuma düzeyi ölçümleri ve 'Okuma Becerisi Ölçeği' aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Veriler iki farklı metin türü üzerinden toplanmıştır. Veri toplama araçları deneysel işlemler öncesi öntest olarak, deneysel işlemler sonrası sontest olarak uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama araçlarından elde edilen verilerin çözümlemeleri SPSS paket programlarından yararlanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Grupların okuma hızı, doğru okuma düzeyi ve 'Okuma Becerisi Ölçeği'nden aldıkları puanlar arasında farklılaşma olup olmadığını belirlemek amacıyla t-testi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda deney ve kontrol grubu arasında okuma hızı, doğru okuma düzeyi ve Okuma Becerisi Ölçeği' den elde edilen puanlarda deney grubu lehine anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Bu doğrultuda Web Destekli Doğru ve Hızlı Okumayı Geliştirme Programı'nın okuma becerisi üzerinde olumlu etkisinin olduğu görülmektedir. Yapılacak bir araştırmada programın okuma becerisi üzerindeki etkisi farklı sınıf düzeylerinde sınanabilir.

The main purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the 'Web Assisted Accurate and Speed Reading Development Program' on primary school students' reading skills. For this purpose, the 'Pretest-Posttest Experimental Model with Control Group' was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 2. grade students (n=40) attending Atatürk Primary School in the Çaldıran district of Van province in the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Experimental (n=20) and control (n=20) groups created within the scope of the research were selected by unbiased assignment. In the study, which included an experiment and a control group, ASRDP created with Web-supported content was applied to the experimental group in addition to the activities in the Turkish curriculum, while only the activities in the Turkish curriculum were applied to the control group. The prepared program was implemented for 6 weeks, with 5 lesson hours per week. The program prepared within the scope of the research was supported by a website. The data of the study were collected through reading speed measurements, correct reading level measurements and 'Reading Skills Scale'. The data was collected over two different text types. Data collection tools were applied as a pretest before the experimental procedures and as a posttest after the experimental procedures. The analysis of the data obtained from the data collection tools was carried out by using SPSS package programs. T-test was conducted to determine whether there was a difference between the reading speed, correct reading level, and the scores they got from the 'Reading Skills Scale'. As a result of the research, a significant difference was found between the experimental and control groups in the reading speed, correct reading level, and the scores obtained from the Reading Skills Scale. In this respect, it is seen that the Correct and Speed Reading Development Program has a positive effect on reading skills. In a research to be conducted, the effect of the program on reading skills can be tested at different grade levels.
