Perception and Attitudes of Teachers and Prospective Teachers Toward the Value of Justice in Social Studies Course

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, ilk ve ortaokullarda sosyal bilgiler derslerini veren öğretmenler ile gelecekte verecek olan öğretmen adaylarının adalet değerine yönelik algı ve tutumlarının belirlenmesidir. Karma yöntemin kullanıldığı bu araştırmanın modeli sıralı açıklayıcı desendir. Bu araştırmanın evrenini, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında, Van ili merkezindeki ilk ve ortaokullarda görev yapan sınıf ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenleri ile Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi'nde öğrenim gören sınıf eğitimi ve sosyal bilgiler eğitimi bölümü öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda uygun örnekleme yöntemi, nitel boyutunda ise amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen KBF, AAÖ, ATÖ ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Ölçek formları ile toplanan nicel verilerin analizinde, parametrik testler kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel boyutundaki verilerin analiz edilmesinde içerik çözümlemesi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel sonuçlarına bakıldığında, öğretmen ve öğretmen adaylarının adalet değerine ilişkin algılarının yüksek düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca öğretmen ve öğretmen adaylarının adalet değerine ilişkin algıları ve tutumları arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın nitel sonuçları incelendiğinde, öğretmen ve öğretmen adaylarının `adalet ve adaletli birey' olgularını en çok 'hakkaniyet/hakkaniyetli olma' ile ilişkilendirdikleri belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların kendilerini genelde adaletli olarak değerlendirdikleri, adaletli olmadıklarını ya da olamadıklarını düşünen katılımcıların ise bu şekilde düşünmelerini; insanlarla ilişkilerinin bozulmasını istememe, zarar görme kaygısı, karşıdaki kişinin de adaletli olmaması gibi nedenlerle açıkladıkları tespit edilmiştir. Öğretmen ve öğretmen adaylarının adalet değeri konusunda doğru beslenebilmelerini temin etmek üzere, adalet değeri ve eğitimi odaklı eser üretme ve yayın çalışmalarına gidilmesi sağlanabilir. Öğretmen, öğrenci ve ebeveynlerin adalet değerine yönelik algı ve tutumlarını belirlemeyi amaçlayan karşılaştırmalı araştırmalar yapılabilir.

The main purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions and attitudes of teachers who teach social studies courses in primary and secondary schools and prospective teachers who will teach them in the future. The model of this study, in which mixed method was used, is the sequential explanatory design. The population of this study consists of classroom and social studies teachers working in primary and secondary schools in the city center of Van in the 2019-2020 academic year, and students of elementary education and social studies education at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Education. Convenience sampling method was used in the quantitative dimension of the study, and maximum variation sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used in the qualitative dimension. The data of the study were collected by using KBF, AAÖ, ATÖ and semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. Parametric tests were used in the analysis of quantitative data collected with scale forms. Content analysis technique was used to analyze the data in the qualitative dimension of the study. Considering the quantitative results of the study, it was determined that the perceptions of teachers and prospective teachers concerning the value of justice are at high level. In addition, it was determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between the perceptions and attitudes of teachers and prospective teachers concerning the value of justice. When the qualitative results of the study were examined, it was determined that teachers and prospective teachers mostly associated the phenomena of 'justice and fair individual' with `fairness/to be fair'. It was found that the participants generally consider themselves to be fair and the ones, who think that they are not or could not be fair, explain the reasons such as not wanting to deteriorate relations with people, worrying about being harmed, and the others' not being fair. In order to ensure that teachers and prospective teachers are educated correctly on the value of justice, studies and publications may be produced based on the value of justice and its education. Comparative studies can be conducted to determine the perceptions and attitudes of teachers, students and parents towards the value of justice.
