A Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Laboratory Based Teaching on Students' Success

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, meta analiz yöntemini kullanarak fen eğitiminde laboratuvar destekli öğretim yöntemi ile öğrenci başarısı arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koymaktır. Bu araştırma, Türkiye'de 2000-2012 yılları arasında fen eğitiminde laboratuvar destekli öğretim yönteminin öğrenci başarısı üzerindeki etkisini inceleyen çalışmaları bir araya getirmiştir. Bu çalışmada 1 adet doktora tezi, 17 adet yüksek lisans tezi, 10 adet makale ve 2 adet bildiri meta analiz yöntemi ile birleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, laboratuvar destekli öğretimin akademik başarıyı, +2,8729 büyüklüğünde etkilediği bulunmuştur. Thalheimer ve Cook tarafından yapılan sınıflandırmaya göre, laboratuvar destekli öğretimin akademik başarıyı muazzam (huge) düzeyde etkilediği görülmektedir. Anahtar kelimeler: Meta- Analiz, Laboratuvar Destekli Eğitim, Fen Eğitimi.The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between laboratory based teaching methods on science education and student success, by using meta-analysis. This paper used the research which were reported from 2000 to 2012 years in Turkey which analyzing the effects of laboratory based teaching methods on student success. By the meta-analysis methods, one PhD dissertation, 17 Master's theses and 10 published articles and 2 proclamations were the main sources of this paper used to demonstrate the influence of laboratory based teachings on science education. The result of the study demonstrates that laboratory based teaching methods significantly influence academic success +2,8729 size. According to the classification made by Thalheimer and Cook, laboratory based teaching affects academic success in a huge degree. Key Words: Laboratory Based Teaching, Meta-Analyse, Science Education
