Detection of the Incidences of Teeth and Gingival Diseases in Dogs

Abstract

Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Hayvan Hastanesi ve İstanbul ili Sarıyer ilçesinde özel bir kliniğe aşı, kontrol ve değişik şikayetler ile gelen köpeklerde diş ve diş eti hastalıklarının dağılımının saptanması amaçlanan bu çalışmada her yaş, cins ve cüssede toplam 500 köpek incelenmiştir. İncelenen bu köpeklerin 333'ünde herhangi bir türde diş veya diş eti rahatsızlığı saptanmıştır. İncelemeler sonucunda diş ve dişeti hastalıklarını toplam muayene edilen köpeklerde %66.6 plak oluşumu, %14.4 periodontitis, %39 gingivitis, %67.2 kalkulus, %1 maloklüzyon, %10.40, diş aşınması, %0.8 kron kırığı, %1.4 mine hipoplazisi, %0.2 oronazal fistül, %0.2 caries, %0.2 gingival hiperplazi'den oluştuğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak incelenen köpeklerde diş ve diş eti hastalıklarının hayvan sahiplerinde ekonomik kayıplara neden olduğu, hayvanın yaşam standartını düşürerek yaşam süresini kısalttığı, agresyon belirtileri ortaya çıkardığı ve insidansının %66.6 olduğu saptanmıştır. It is aimed to examine patients of two different facilities of which one is the University of Yüzüncü Yıl, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Hospital Department and the second one is a private clinic in Sarıyer, a region of Istanbul. Five hundred patients regardless their breed, age and weight who came into the the facilities with different complaints or even only for the routine vaccinations were examined due to any symptoms regarding their teeth health. It was seen that 333 of the dogs had neither teeth diseases nor gingival diseases. At the end of all examinations considering teeth and gingival diseases it was seen that 66.60 % of all dogs had plaque formations, 14.40 % periodontitis, 39.00 % gingivitis, 67.20 % calculus, 1 % malocclusion, 10.40 % tooth erosion, 0.80 % dental crown fracture, 1.40 % hypoplasia of the enamel, 0.20 % oronasal fistula, 0.20 % hyperplasia.
