An Investigation on the Efficacy of Science and Technology Lesson in the First Stage of Primary Education

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı; sınıf öğretmenlerinin fen öğretiminde öz-yeterlik inanç düzeylerini belirlemek; sınıf öğretmenlerinin Fen ve Teknoloji dersini işlerken karşılaştıkları sorunları belirlemek ve bu dersin alan öğretmenleri mi yoksa sınıf öğretmenleri tarafından mı daha etkili bir şekilde işlenebileceğini; her iki durumda da ortaya çıkabilecek olumlu ve olumsuz sonuçları incelemektir. Araştırmada Van merkez ve ilçelerinde görev yapmakta olan 603 sınıf öğretmenine fen öğretimine ilişkin öz-yeterlik inançlarını ölçmek amacıyla Riggs ve Enochs tarafından 1990 yılında geliştirilen Bıkmaz (2002) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan 20 maddeden oluşan ?Sınıf Öğretmenlerinin Fen Öğretiminde Öz-yeterlik İnancı Ölçeği? uygulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, öz-yeterlik inancının ve sonuç beklentisinin cinsiyet ve mezun olunan bölüme göre farklılaşmadığı; öz-yeterlik inancının kıdem yılı ve mezun olunan fakülteye göre farklılaşmadığı ancak sonuç beklentisine göre farklılaştığı görülmüştür.Araştırmada, 62 sınıf öğretmeni ve 50 fen bilgisi öğretmeni ile 10 fen bilimleri öğretim elemanına yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği ile sorular yönlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, sınıf öğretmenlerinin birçoğunun, laboratuvarda malzeme araç-gereç eksikliği olduğunu belirttikleri, deney yaparken sorunlarla karşılaştıkları, laboratuvarı kullanmada yetersiz oldukları belirlenmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan öğretmenlerin ve öğretim elemanlarının büyük bir çoğunluğu, Fen ve Teknoloji dersinin özellikle alan öğretmenleri tarafından verilmesinin daha verimli olacağına inanmışlardır.Anahtar kelimeler: Sınıf öğretmeni, İlköğretim, Öz-yeterlik, Fen öğretimi.

The aim of this study is to determine the self-efficacy and reliance of primary school teachers in science education and find out the problems faced in the educational process. It was also one of the aims of the study to determine whether those teachers specialized in the branch or just the stage teachers would prove to be efficient, and to interpret the positive and negative results brought about in the two cases. In the investigation, a self-efficacy scale was used for candidates of stage teachers in science education composed of 20 questionnaire items which were translated into Turkish in 2002 by Bıkmaz and developed by Riggs and Enochs in order to measure the self-efficacy of teachers. It was applied on 603 teachers of op sage classer, who were working in Van city center and its environs. In conclusion, self-efficacy and result expectancy were found to show no difference according to the field of graduation or gender or according to the duration or faculty while making career.In the investigation, questions were directed with structured interviews carried out by 62 teachers of stage classes, 50 science teachers and 10 science instructors. As a result of our analyses, it was found that most of the teachers of stage classes pointed to the lack of devices, materials in the laboratories, faced with problems while doing experiments and most of the teachers and instructors included in the study said that science and technology lessons would best be given by those specialized in the field.Key words: Stage teacher, Primary school, Self-efficacy, Science education
