Muhbir Gazetesinin Sistematik Tahlili

Abstract

Muhbir (The journalist) is worth-mentioning in the history of Turkish literary criticism and Turkish thinking as well as in the history of Turkish media. Not only is it composed of political and ideological article form that was brought with Tanzimat literature, but also it has a prominent effect in the history of criticism. In that newspaper, which is mostly involved in social and political issues, the problems in Turkish language, the innovations in the language are dealt with in a great intensity. The journalist has undertaken an important function for the salvation and the well- being of the Ottoman society that was colapsed during the process of political and economic instability. It has promoted the state and the public to deal with these issues in a rather realistic approach. As an organ of media that was aware of political and social issues of the period, it has even threatened the state. This shows its earnest mission about the subject. While this newspaper, in the one hand, complained of the rule of the state, in the other hand, it proclaimed that the state should have avoided of unnecessary expenditure except for indispensible ones. The journalist advocates that the lack of dialogue between the scholars and the disinterest of the scholars in social matters and the disfunction of them and the injustly and disproportionaoly division of the present potansiel in the country and getting rid of our identity by way of imitation and the indifference of the state to the religion, social turmoil and bribery have led the weakening of the state and the rcsession of the society. In addition, it expresses that the state does not care for the education of the people. We have the conviction that the problems touched on in that newspaper are paralelled with that of today, the cause and result relationship of the issues like social and political events could be revaluated in the light of that of the past. In the newspaper, the writings published under the title The Inquirer letter performed the functions of the political opposition of today. There fore The journalist handled the newspaper, article which is also a literary genre, as a means of social and political article.Though the newspaper is a publishing organ of Organization of the New Ottomans, the only writer of the newspaper is Ali Suavî, apart from some other writings. Ali Suavî has attracted the public interest with his point of view of social and political criticism. Charles wells, who was fricndli to Turks, was also a prominent literary figure about his interesting views especially on language. The contribution of the great genious Ziya Pasha with his writings has also increased its importance. If our study contributed to the history of media and ideology of ours we would be grateful.
