Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of the social skills, attention and self-confidence levels of secondary school students who do and do not do sports. The research with the scanning model was carried out in the 2020-2021 academic year. A total of 400 individuals, 200 of whom do sports and 200 who do not, participated in the study. Social skills scale (SBS), Bourdon attention test, Piers Harris self-concept Scale and Personal Information Form were used. The analysis of the collected data was made using the SPSS statistical package program. In statistical analysis, measurements were evaluated with both the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the Shapiro Wilk test, and normal and non-normal distributions were observed in the distribution of the variables. In the comparison of two-level variables, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskall-Wallis test were used for those who did not show normal distribution, and T-Test and Anova test for those with normal distribution. In this study, the level of significance was taken as p˂0.05. When the findings obtained in the study were evaluated, a significant relationship was found in social skills, self-confidence and attention scores when individuals were compared according to the variable of whether or not to do sports (p<0.05). The difference is in favor of secondary school students who do sports. When the gender variable of secondary school students was examined, there was no significant relationship between social skills and attention scores (p>0.05), while self-confidence scores were found to be significant (p<0.05). The difference is in favor of male students. Social skills, self-confidence and attention levels of those who regularly read books are higher than those who do not regularly read (p<0.05). When the educational status of the mothers and fathers of the individuals is examined, the social skills, self-confidence and attention levels of the individuals are higher in the father's education (p<0.05). His father is in favor of a high school graduate. When the educational status of the mother was examined, it was observed that it did not affect attention, social skills and self-confidence (p>0.05). There was no significant difference in attention, social skills and self-confidence levels in the Bki variable (p>0.05). As a result, sports had a positive effect on middle school students' selfconfidence, attention, and social skills in general.
