The Concept of Nafs in Hadiths

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Allah tarafından insanoğluna yaratılışı sırasında iyi ve kötüye yönelme eğilimi olarak verilen nefs kavramının, hadislerde hangi anlamlarda kullanıldığını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın giriş bölümünde konunun önemiyle birlikte nefs kavramının kendisiyle ilişkili diğer kavramlara yer verilmiştir. Daha sonra ise kavramın Kur'ân-ı Kerîm, hadislerdeki kullanımının yanı sıra felsefe, kelâm ve tasavvuf gibi disiplinlerde hangi anlamlara geldiğinin üzerinde durulmuştur. Son olarak ise Hz. Peygamber'in, nefsin olumsuz özelliklerine bakış açısı ve bu özelliklerin nasıl terbiye edilerek ne şekilde olumlu hale dönüştürülebileceği ifade edilmeye çalışılmıştır.

This study aims to reveal in which meanings the concept of nafs (human soul), which is given to humankind by God as a tendency towards good or bad, is used. In the introduction part of the research, the importance of the subject and other concepts related to the concept of nafs itself are included. Afterwards, the meaning of the concept in disciplines such as philosophy, kalam and sufism, as well as the use of the concept in the Qur'an and hadiths, is emphasized. Finally, it has been tried to express the Prophet's perspective on the negative features of the nafs and how these features can be transformed into positive ones by training them.
