The Effect of Children's Literature Works on 6th Grade Students' Reading Motivation, Reading Attitudes and Reader Self-Perception

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı çocuk edebiyatı eserlerinin 6. sınıf ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma motivasyonu, okuma tutumu ve okur öz algısına etkisini tespit etmektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda yapılan çalışmada nicel araştırma desenlerindenbiri olan yarı deneysel desenlerden 'öntest- sontest eşleştirilmiş kontrol grupludesen' kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Şırnak ili Silopi ilçesinde yer alan Cumhuriyet Ortaokulunda öğrenim görmekte olan 6. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. 2022-2023 eğitim-öğretim yılında Cumhuriyet Ortaokulunda öğrenim görmekte olan 6. sınıf öğrencilerinden30'u random yöntemiyle deney grubu, 30'u da kontrol grubu olarak seçilmiştir. Bu çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak okuma motivasyon ve okumaya adanmışlık ölçeği, ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencileri için okumaya yönelik tutum ölçeği, okur öz algısı ölçekleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verilerinin analizinde, deney grubu ve kontrol grubunun okuma motivasyonu ve okumaya adanmışlık ölçeği, okuma tutumu ölçeği ve okur öz algısı ölçeğinin ön test ve son testinden aldıkları puanların normallik değerlerine bakılmıştır. Yapılacak analiz teknikleri için normallik varsayımlarından olan Shapiro-Wilk değerlerine bakılmıştır. Bu analiz sürecinde, deney ve kontrol gruplarının ölçeklerden aldıkları ön test ve son test puanlarının aynı grubun kendi içinde karşılaştırılması için bağımlı örneklemler t-testi; grupların birbirleriyle karşılaştırma içinse bağımsız örneklemler t-testi analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda çocuk edebiyatı eserlerinin okunmasının ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma motivasyonu ve okumaya adanmışlık, okuma tutumu ve okur öz algısı üzerinde pozitif bir etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

The main purpose of this research is to determine the effects of children's literature works on 6th grade secondary school students' reading motivation, reading attitude and reader self-perception.In this study, one of the quantitative research designs, 'pretest-posttest matched control group design', one of the quasi-experimental designs, was used.The study group of the research consists of 6th grade students studying at Cumhuriyet Secondary School located in Silopi district of Şırnak province.30 of the 6th grade students studying at Cumhuriyet Secondary School in the 2022-2023 academic year were randomly selected as the experimental group and 30 as the control group. In this study, reading motivation and reading dedication scale, reading attitude scale for secondary school students, reader self-perception scales were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data of the research, the normality values of the scores of the experimental group and the control group in the pretest and posttest of the reading motivation and reading dedication scale, the reading attitude scale and the reader self-perception scale were examined. Shapiro-Wilk values, one of the normality assumptions, were examined for the analysis techniques to be made. In this analysis process, dependent samples t-test was used to compare the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental and control groups from the scales within the same group; In order to compare the groups with each other, independent samples t-test analysis was performed. As a result of the research, it has been determined that reading children's literature works has a positive effect on secondary school students' reading motivation and dedication to reading, reading attitude and reader self-perception.
