Kitsch Aesthetics and Its Effects on Contemporary Painting

Abstract

Fransız İhtilali ile dünyayı saran özgürlük ilkesi sanat alanında da kendisini göstermiştir. Sanatın katılığındaki kurallar dünyası, modern sanat anlayışında daha esnek ve özgün hale gelmiştir. Diğer bir deyişle modern sanat, popüler kültüre hitap eden toplumlar arasındaki sınıf ayrımlarını ortadan kaldırarak herkese ulaşabilen bir anlayış getirmiştir. 1900'lü yılların ikinci yarısında başlayan postmodern oluşumlar, yüksek sanat ile halk sanatı arasındaki farkı ortadan kaldırmayı amaç edinmiş ve Modernizmin çeşitli yapılarına ve erdemlerine karşı tavır almıştır. Postmodernizm, bu süreçte, temelini sanayi devrimine ve post-modernist dönemde meydana gelen kitle kültürü ve üretim değişimlerine borçlu olan Kitsch sanatının üretimine önemli bir fırsat sağlamış ve popüler kültürü temel alarak toplumsal sanat için gerekli altyapıyı da tahsis etmiştir. Tüm bunların sonucunda, o dönemde değersiz ve bayağı olarak görülen imzasız Kitsch yaratımları, çağdaş sanat camiasında yeniden değerlendirilerek, sanki birer üstün sanat eseriymiş gibi kabul edilerek çeşitli tartışmaların ve anlaşmazlıkların da kaynağı olmuştur. Dolayısıyla, bu çalışmada pek çok tartışmayı da beraberinde getiren 'Kitsch' kavramının çağdaş resim sanatına etkileri tartışılmıştır.

The principle of freedom that surrounded the world with the French Revolution also showed itself in the field of art. The world of rules in the strictness of art has become more flexible and original in the understanding of modern art. In other words, modern art has brought an understanding that can reach everyone by eliminating class distinctions between societies that appeal to popular culture. Postmodern formations, which started in the second half of the 1900s, aimed to eliminate the difference between high art and folk art and took a stand against various structures and virtues of Modernism. In this process, postmodernism provided an important opportunity to the production of Kitsch art, which owes its foundation to the industrial revolution and the mass culture and production changes that took place in the post-modernist period, and has allocated the necessary infrastructure for social art based on popular culture. As a result of all this, Kitsch creations, which were seen as worthless and vulgar at that time, were re-evaluated in the contemporary art community, accepted as if they were superior works of art, and became the source of various discussions and disagreements. Therefore, in this study, the effects of the concept of 'Kitsch', which brings with it many discussions, on contemporary painting art were discussed.
