Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı Mardin Derik Devlet Hastanesi'ne başvuran hastalarda intestinal parazitlerin sıklığını belirlemektir. Çalışma 17.10.2020-30.11.2021 tarihleri arasında Derik Devlet Hastanesi ve Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Parazitoloji Araştırma Laboratuvarı'nda yürütüldü. Çalışmaya Derik Devlet Hastanesi'ne başvuran 150'si çocuk (75'i kız, 75'i erkek), 150'si erişkin (75'i kadın, 75'i erkek) olmak üzere toplam 300 kişi dahil edildi.
The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of intestinal parasites in patients admitted to Mardin Derik State Hospital. The study was carried out at Derik State Hospital and Van Yuzuncu Yil University Faculty of Medicine Parasitology Research Laboratory between 17.10.2020-30.11.2021. A total of 300 people, including 150 children (75 girls, 75 boys), 150 adults (75 women, 75 men) who applied to Derik State Hospital, were included in the study. Stool samples were evaluated by native-Lugol, formol-ethyl acetate concentration and modified acid-fast staining methods. Intestinal parasites were found in 19 (12.7%) of 150 girls/women and 18 (12%) of 150 men, 37 (12.3%) of a total of 300 patients included in this study. Blastocystis hominis (8.3%) was the parasite with the highest rate in our study. In addition, Giardia intestinalis (1.3%), Enterobius vermicularis (0.3%; in stool) and Hymenolepis nana (0.3%) were also detected. Considering the prevalence of parasites by age groups, intestinal parasites were found at a higher rate in adults (16.7%) than in children (8%), and there was a statistically significant difference (p= 0.021) between age groups in terms of parasite positivity. Parasite positivity was higher in boys (10.7%) than girls (5.3%) in the pediatric age group, and higher in women (20%) than men (13.3%) in the adult age group. As a result, due to the fact that our study was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic, when contact was reduced and hygiene rules were followed much more, intestinal parasite diversity was found to be low and the frequency was low in Derik district of Mardin. Although the results we obtained in our study give an idea about the frequency of intestinal parasites in the district, more comprehensive studies are needed to fully reveal the prevalence of these parasites.
