Investigation of the Effect of High School 10th Grade Students' Academic Success Levels in Heritage on the Levels of Misconceptions

Abstract

Biyoloji canlılarla ilgilenen, canlıların yapısını, işlevlerini, canlı ve cansız çevreyle ilişkilerini, dağılımlarını, değişimlerini ve çeşitliliğini inceleyen bir bilimdir. Biyoloji öğretiminde kullanılan kavramların çoğunun soyut olması ve Latince dilinin teknik olarak biyolojik yapıların ve canlıların isimlendirilmesinde kullanılmasından dolayı biyoloji öğretiminde güçlükler yaşanmaktadır. Bu sebeplerden dolayı öğrenciler biyoloji konularını anlamamakta kavramlar arasında ilişki kuramamakta hatta kavram yanılgıları ortaya çıkmaktadır. Biyoloji dersinde kavram yanılgısı görülen konulardan biri de 'Kalıtım' konusudur. Öğrencilerin bu konuda kavram yanılgılarına sahip olduğu yapılan birçok araştırmada görülmüştür. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Lise 10. sınıftaki Biyoloji öğrencilerinin kalıtım konusundaki akademik başarı düzeylerinin kavram yanılgılarına sahip olma düzeylerine etkisini ortaya koymak olmuştur. Çalışma 2020-2021 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Van İli İpekyolu ilçesi Mesut Özata Anadolu Lisesinde yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya Lise 10. Sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan 113öğrenci katılmıştır. Yapılan araştırmada 2 test kullanılmıştır. Bu testler; Akademik Başarı Testi ve Kavram Yanılgıları testidir. Araştırmanın amacına yönelik olarak İlişkisel Tarama Yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre Akademik Başarı düzeyleri ile Kavram Yanılgıları düzeyleri arasında pandeminin yoğun olarak etkisini gösterdiği bir dönemde ve elektronik ortamda ölçümlerin yapılmasından dolayı anlamlı bir ilişkinin olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Biology is a science that deals with living things, examines the structure and functions of living things, their relations with the living and non-living environment, their distribution, changes and diversity. There are difficulties in biology teaching because most of the concepts used in biology teaching are abstract and the Latin language is technically used to name biological structures and living things. For these reasons, students do not understand biology subjects, cannot establish a relationship between concepts, and even misconceptions arise. One of the subjects in which misconceptions are seen in the biology course is the subject of 'Heredity'. It has been seen in many studies that students have misconceptions on this subject. The aim of this study was to reveal the effect of the academic achievement levels of Biology students in the 10th grade of High School on the level of having misconceptions about heredity. The study was carried out at Mesut Özata Anatolian High School in Van Province İpekyolu district in the 2020-2021 academic year. 113 students studying in the 10th grade of High School participated in the research. Two tests were used in the study. These tests are; It is an Academic Achievement Test and a Misconceptions Test. Relational Screening Method was used for the purpose of the research. According to the research findings, it was concluded that there was no significant relationship between the levels of Academic Achievement and the levels of Misconceptions, due to the fact that the measurements were made in the electronic environment at a time when the pandemic was heavily affected.
