Examination of Science Teachers Attitudes and Opinions Against Distance Education During the Covid-19 Pandemic (van Province Example)

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Covid-19 pandemi sürecinde yürütülen uzaktan eğitime yönelik fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin tutum ve görüşlerinin tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Nitel ve nicel boyutlarından oluşan karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın deseni, yakınsayan desen modelidir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Van ilinin İpekyolu, Tuşba ve Edremit ilçelerinde bulunan Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı'na bağlı devlet okullarında görev yapan 200 fen bilimleri öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Ağır (2007) tarafından geliştirilen 21 madde ve iki boyuttan oluşan beşli likert tipi 'Uzaktan Eğitime Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği' ve araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen 'Açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan Anket Formu' kullanılmıştır. Veriler Google form üzerinden çevrimiçi olarak toplanmıştır. Nitel verilerin analizinde içerik analizi, nicel verilerin analizinde ise yüzde, frekans, t-testi, Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi (ANOVA) testi gibi istatistiksel teknikler kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada kullanılan tutum ölçeğinin Cronbach's Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0,91 bulunmuştur. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin uzaktan eğitime yönelik tutumlarında cinsiyet, mesleki kıdem, okulların bulunduğu ilçe, öğrenim düzeyi ve hizmet içi eğitim değişkenleri açısından anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Öğretmenlerin uzaktan eğitime yönelik görüşleri incelendiğinde ise uzaktan eğitimde fırsat eşitliğinin olmaması nedeniyle derslere katılamayan öğrencilerin fazla olması, altyapının yetersiz olması, uzaktan eğitimde etkileşimin eksik olması nedeniyle yüz yüze eğitimin uzaktan eğitimden daha etkili olduğu şeklinde görüşler bildirdikleri tespit edilmiştir.In this study, it is aimed to determine the attitudes and opinions of science teachers towards distance education conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic process. Mixed research method consisting of qualitative and quantitative dimensions was used. The design of the research is the convergent design model. The sample of the research consists of 200 science teachers working in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in İpekyolu, Tusba and Edremit districts of Van province in the 2020-2021 academic year. As a data collection tool in the research, a five-point Likert-type 'Attitude Scale towards Distance Education' consisting of 21 items and two dimensions, developed by Ağır (2007), and a 'Questionnaire Form consisting of open-ended questions' developed by the researcher were used. Data were collected online via Google form. Statistical techniques such as content analysis were used in the analysis of qualitative data, and percentage, frequency, t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test were used in the analysis of quantitative data. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the attitude scale used in the study was found to be 0.91. According to the findings obtained from the research, no significant difference was found in the attitudes of science teachers towards distance education in terms of gender, professional seniority, district where the schools are located, education level and in-service training variables. When the teachers' views on distance education were examined, it was determined that they stated that face-to-face education is more effective than distance education due to the high number of students who could not attend the classes due to the lack of equality of opportunity in distance education, the insufficient infrastructure, and the lack of interaction in distance education.
