The Investigation of Stress Sources and Behavioral Addiction Inclinations of Teachers During Covid-19 Outbreak

Abstract

Modern zamanların en büyük salgın hastalığı haline gelen COVID-19 döneminde ev sınırlandırması veya uzatılan karantina gibi virüsün yayılmasını engellemek için alınan tedbirler toplumsal düzeyde üstesinden gelinemez ekonomik yüklere yol açmakta ve kitlelerin çeşitli olumsuz duygu reaksiyonları, psikolojik zorluklar ve davranış değişiklikleri yaşamasına sevk etmektedir Bu araştırmanın amacı COVID-19 salgın sürecinde öğretmenlerin yaşadıkları stres kaynaklarını ile davranışsal bağımlılık eğilimlerini belirlemektir. Bu amaçla Van ili İpekyolu, Tuşba ve Edremit ilçelerinden 24 öğretmen araştırmaya katılmıştır. Katılımcıların 12'si erkek ve 12'si kadındır. Karma desenli tasarlanan bu araştırmada katılımcılara araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile 'Kısa Semptom Envanteri' uygulanmıştır. Nitel verilerin analizinde içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz kullanılırken envanterden toplanan verilerin analizi için betimsel istatistikler, ilişki analizi için de t testi uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda (1) öğretmenlerin en büyük stres kaynaklarının sosyal hayatın kısıtlanması ve virüsü kapma korkusu olduğu, (2) bu stresle baş edebilmek adına akıllı telefon ve sosyal medya bağımlılığı eğilimleri geliştirdikleri ve (3) kadın öğretmenlerin bu süreçte erkeklere göre daha fazla depresyon ve anksiyete geliştirdikleri bulunmuştur.

In the period of COVID-19, which has become the biggest epidemic disease of modern times, measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus, such as house restrictions or prolonged quarantine, cause insurmountable economic burdens at the social level and lead the masses to experience various negative emotional reactions, psychological difficulties and behavioral changes. The aim of this research is to determine the sources of stress teachers experience during the COVID-19 epidemic and their behavioral addiction tendencies. For this purpose, 24 teachers from Van province İpekyolu, Tusba and Edremit districts participated in the research. In this research designed with a mixed pattern, a semi-structured interview form and a 'Brief Symptom Inventory' prepared by the researcher were applied to the participants. While content analysis and descriptive analysis were used in the analysis of qualitative data, descriptive statistics were used for analysis of the data collected from the inventory, and t test was used for relationship analysis. In this study, it was found that (1) the biggest stress sources of teachers were restriction of social life and fear of catching the virüse, (2) they developed smartphone and social media addiction tendencies to cope with this stress, and (3) female teachers developed more depression and anxiety in this process compared to men.
