ABSTRACTTHE DETERMINATION OF ANTIVIRAL DRUGS ACYCLOVIR ANDVALACICLOVIR BY VOLTAMMETRIC METHODTALAY PINAR, P.MSc. ChemistrySupervisor: Prof. Dr. Zühre ŞENTÜRKFebruary 2006, 120 PagesIn this study, the electrochemical properties of acyclovir and valaciclovir, antiviral drugs, have been studied in pH range 1.8-12.0 by cyclic and differentialpulse voltammetry. The dependence of intensities of currents and potentials on pH,supporting electrolyte, scan rate, surfactants and concentration was carefullyinvestigated. The drugs were irreversibly oxidized at a glassy carbon electrode inone or two oxidation steps which are pH-dependent. For analytical purposes, veryresolved diffusion controlled voltammetric peaks using differential pulse mode wereobtained in 0.2 M sulphuric acid solution containing 10-3 M sodium lauril sulfate asanionic surfactant . The method was applied to the determination of acyclovir andvalaciclovir in tablets. Keywords: Acyclovir, Valaciclovir, Glassy carbon electrode, Cyclicvoltammetry, Differential pulse voltammetry, Determination, Tabletsiii
