Haymana and Tuzgölü Basin Deposits Fractured Zircon U-Pb Population Ages and Resource Rock Analysis
Abstract
Haymana and Tuzgölü basins evolved on or in the domain of İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan and Inner Tauride suture zones, which have significant effects on the tectonic evolution and geometry of the Anatolian plate. Within the scope of this project, in order to determine the source rock characteristics of the basins and the possible locations of the source rocks, (i) 6 samples were taken from the sediments of the basins covering the Upper-Cretaceous-Eocene time interval and (ii) 668 zircon U-Pb ages were obtained from these samples and (iii) 324 paleo-current directions were measured from the 67 stations that again represent the Upper-Cretaceous-Eocene time interval. Obtained results indicate; (i) throughout its evolution, the Haymana basin was fed from a source in the north that evolved almost together with the basin in the Cretaceous-Eocene time interval, (ii) in the Late Cretaceous-Paleocene time period, the Tuzgölü basin was fed from a source that also evolved in the Cretaceous-Paleocene and located in the east/north. However, during the Eocene period, the basin was fed from both (i) two different sources located in the east / north and west / south, and (ii) multiple sources that contain Late Cretaceous-Eocene, Carboniferous-Permian, Late Pre-Cambrian aged zircon crystals, and (iii) Tauride block metamorphic rocks were exhumed before 42 Ma. The integrated interpretation of the results shows that (i) the basins are fed from different sources and (ii) these basins, which were previously defined as fore-arc to foreland basins in the literature, were formed in geodynamically different areas.
