The Level of Knowledge of Some Mathemati̇cal Concepts of Classroom Teachers

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, sınıf öğretmenlerinin bazı matematiksel kavramları bilip, bilmediklerini veya ne kadar doğru bildiklerini araştırmaktır ve bu konuda sınıf öğretmenlerinde farkındalık oluşturmaktır. Araştırmada, var olan bir durum ortaya koymaya çalışıldığından çalışma, betimsel bir araştırmadır. Araştırmada Van ilinde görev yapan 8 sınıf öğretmeni örneklem grubuna alınmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri için 18 açık uçlu sorudan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış bir görüşme formu geliştirilmiştir. Görüşme formundan elde edilen verilerin analizi için ise içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Çalışmamıza katılan sınıf öğretmenlerinin bazı matematiksel kavramları bilme düzeyleri tespit edilmiş, kavramsal bilgilerde ve öğretim teknik ve yöntemlerinde sorun yaşadıkları ortaya çıkarılmış, bazı matematik kavramlarını yeterli düzeyde bilmedikleri ve kavram yanılgıları yaşadıkları görülmüştür. Çalışmamızda sınıf öğretmenlerinin bazı matematiksel kavramları bildikleri, bazılarını eksik bildikleri ve bazılarını bilmedikleri veya yanlış bildikleri görülmüştür. Öğretmenlerimizin bazı sorulara 'Öğretmiyoruz!', 'Bilmiyorum', 'Yorum yapamıyorum.' gibi cevaplar verdikleri görülmüştür.

The main purpose of this study is whether or not the class teachers know some mathematical concepts or to investigate how well they know this concepts and raise awareness of class teachers for this subject. In this study, as an existing situation is being revealed, it is an descriptive research. In the study, 8 classroom teachers who are working in the province of Van are taken to the sample group. For data of the research, we developed a semi-structured interview form consisting of 18 open-ended questions. In order to analyze the data obtained from the interview form, we performed a content analysis. We have determined the level of knowledge of some mathematical concepts of classroom teachers who participated in our study. We have found out that these teachers have problems in conceptual knowledge and teaching techniques and methods. Also,we have found out that these teachers do not know enough of some mathematical concepts and they have misconceptions. In our study, we have found out that some of the classroom teachers who have participated in our study have knowledge about some mathematical concepts, some have less knowledge about some mathematical concepts, some dont have any knowledge about some mathematical concepts or have misknowledge. The teachers who participated in the study answered some questions as ' I dont teach it', ' I dont know it' or ' I have no commment about it.'
