In the Memories Written by the Members of the Committee of Union and Progress, the First World War

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı'nın son dönemlerinde ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti'nin ku-ruluşunda etkili olan İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti'nin önde gelen isimlerinin hatıraları incelendi. Çalışmanın amacı, hatırat sahiplerinin Birinci Dünya Savaşı'ndaki eylemleri, düşünceleri ve savaşa etki eden önemli kararları mümkün olduğunca tarafsız bir gözle değerlendirmektir. Bu tarafsız değerlendirmeyi yapmak adına, yerli ve yabancı birçok hatırat incelendi. Hatırat yazma geleneği, özellikle Osmanlı'nın son dönemlerinde ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluş yılla-rında oldukça yaygındı. Yazılmış olan tüm hatıraları kaleme almak elbette mümkün olmadığı için belli isimlerle sınırlı tutulmaya çalışıldı. Özellikle başta Enver Paşa olmak üzere Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nda aktif rol alan isimlere yer verilmiş ve olaylara bu isimlerin hatıratı üzerinden bakılmıştır. Bu isimlerin bu hatıraları kaleme alma sebepleri irdelendi. Bunun en önemli sebebi: mezkûr isimlerin kendilerini ifade edebilecekleri başka bir mecra bulunmamış olmasıdır. Tüm bu çalışma yapılırken tarih metodolojisine riayet edilmeye çalışıldı. Ayrıca Birinci Dünya Sa-vaşında rol almış isimlerin sadece birkaçı bu çalışmaya dâhil edildi. Bunlar arasında Enver Paşa, Talat Paşa, Cemal Paşa, Said Halim Paşa, Kazım Karabekir, Rauf Orbay ve bunlara mu-halif olarak görülen Hürriyet ve İtilaf Fırkası'nın birkaç önemli ismi yer almaktadır.

In this study, the memories of the leading figures of the Committee of Union and Pro-gress, which was influential in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, were examined. The aim of the study is to evaluate the memoirists' actions, thoughts and important decisions affecting the war in World War I as objectively as possible. In order to make this impartial evaluation, many local and foreign memoirs were ex-amined. The tradition of writing memoirs was quite common, especially in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire and the founding years of the Republic of Turkey. Since it was of course not possible to write down all the memories written, an attempt was made to limit them to certain names. Names that took an active role in the First World War, especially Enver Pasha, were included and the events were examined through the memoirs of these names. The reasons why these people wrote these memoirs were examined. The most important reason for this is that there is no other medium where these names can express themselves. While carrying out this entire study, an attempt was made to comply with the historical methodology. Additionally, only a few of the names that took part in the First World War were included in this study. Among these, there are Enver Pasha, Talat Pasha, Cemal Pasha, Said Halim Pasha, Kazım Kar-abekir, Rauf Orbay and a few important names of the Freedom and Entente Party, which are seen as opponents.
