Archaeological Data in the Light of Ancient Times in Ağrı
Abstract
In our thesis titled 'Ağrı in the Light of Archaeological Data in the Ancient Age', the archaeological centers that form the basis of the data—located in Ağrı Province, its districts, villages, and towns—are comprehensively examined and evaluated. Ağrı Province, which hosted many civilizations during their migration from Asia to Anatolia, has historically served as a temporary settlement area. Due to its location on a transit route, the region has always been vulnerable to invasions and has suffered numerous attacks, preventing the formation of a deeply rooted state structure. Nevertheless, many movable and immovable historical and cultural assets belonging to these civilizations have turned Ağrı and its surroundings into an open-air museum. Its geographical position, natural features, fertile agricultural lands, and abundant water resources have made it suitable for settlement.
