Effects of Active Learning on Success in Mathematics

Abstract

Yanlış ya da yetersiz olan yöntemlerle matematiğin öğrencilerlebuluşturulması, onu öğrenilmesi güç, korkunç ve karnelerin kırık notlu dersi halinegetirmiştir.Bu çalışma ile matematiğin olumsuz görüntüsünün ve derstekibaşarısızlıkların ortadan kaldırılmasında aktif öğrenme yöntemlerinin etkisi üzerindedurulmuş ve aktif öğrenme etkinlikleri kullanılarak verilebilecek örnek bir konuseçilip (açı ve üçgen çeşitleri), bu konu aktif öğrenme ve geleneksel yöntemlerle2004-2005 eğitim-öğretim yılının ikinci döneminde Van Merkez Rekabet lköğretimOkulu 6C ve 6D sınıflarında toplam 48 öğrenciye uygulanarak karşılaştırmayapılmıştır. Sonuçta seçilen konunun aktif öğrenme yöntemiyle verilebileceğininbaşarıyı arttıracağı kanısına varılmıştır. Ayrıca bu çalışma ile kendini ifade etmedegüçlük çeken ve bundan dolayı geleneksel yöntemde başarısız olarak tabir edilenöğrencilerin, fırsat verilirse ne çok şeyler başarabileceği ve sosyal yönde de aktifhale gelebileceği görülmüştür.Bu çalışma beş bölümden oluşmaktadır.Birinci bölümde konu ile ilgili genel bilgiler verildi. kinci bölümde kaynakbildirişleri verildi. Üçüncü bölümde materyal ve metot verildi. Dördüncü bölümdebulgularda elde edilen veriler SPSS (Demo sürümü) 10.0 Paket programıylakarşılaştırıldı. Beşinci bölümde ise sonuç ve önerilere yer verildi.Anahtar kelimeler: Matematik, Matematik öğretimi, Aktif öğrenme.Teaching of Mathematics using incorrect or inefficient methods has made ita subject which is difficult to learn, frightening and one with a bad grade on thelearner?s report.This study deals with the effects of the methods of active learning onremoving the bad fame of Mathematics and the failure in the lesson and makes acomparison by using a chosen sample topic (angle and triangles) that can be taughtby using active learning activities and this topic was applied using active learningand traditional methods to a total of 48 students in the 6C and 6D classes of VanRekabet Primary School in the second semester of 2004-2005 academic year. In theend of the study it is understood that teaching the chosen topic by using activelearning methods increases the success. With this study it is also understood that thestudents who have difficulty in expressing themselves, thus, regarded as failures inthe traditional methods may achieve a lot when given the opportunity and that theymay also become more active socially.This study consists of five chapters.The first chapter gives general information on the subject. The secondchapter gives the announcements about the relevant literature / studies. Thematerials and the method are given in the third chapter. The data obtained from thefindings is compared with the programme SPSS 10.0 (trial version) in the fourthchapter.
