The Importance of Level Ykl-40 in Esophageal Cancer Patients

Abstract

Giriş: YKL-40, malign tumor hücrelerinden, nötrofillerden ve makrofajlardan salınan bir glikoproteindir. Artmış YKL-40 düzeyleri, zayıf prognoz ile ilişkilidir. Çalışmamızda, özefagus kanserli hastalarda YKL-40 düzeyleri belirlenmiştir.Materyal ve Metod: YKL-40 düzeyleri, 100 özefagus kanserli hastada ve 75 sağlıklı bireyde enzim bağlı immunosorbent ölçüm (ELISA) yöntemi ile belirlendi.Bulgular: Biz, özefagus kanserli hastada YKL-40 düzeylerini sağlıklı bireylere göre, yüksek bulduk (p<0.0001).Sonuç: Sonuçlarımız göstermiştir ki, serum YKL-40 düzeyleri özefagus kanserli hastalarda önemli bir role sahiptir.

Background: YKL-40 is a glycoprotein secreted by macrophages, neutrophils and malignant tumor cells. Elevated serum levels of YKL-40 are associated with poor prognosis in cancer. Our study examined the clinical usefulness of YKL-40 in detection and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).Methods: Using ELISA kits, we measured the concentration of YKL-40 in serum from 100 patients with ESCC and compared this concentration with in healthy population.Results: We found significantly higher serum levels of YKL-40 in patients with ESCC compared to the healthy population (p<0.0001).Conclusions: These results suggest that serum YKL-40 may play an important role in ESCC.
