Abstract
In this study, the effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF), whey, and humic acid applications on seedling growth and Fusarium wilt in melon were investigated by inoculating four hybrid melon cultivars (Süper Magnum F1, Extra Early Galia F1, Rambo F1 and Sempati F1) with three AMF species (Gigaspora margarita, G. etunicatum and G. intraradices). First, the appropriate hybrid melon cultivar x AMF combination was determined. In the next stage of the melon seedlings grown in the viols, the effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF), whey, and humic acid applications on seedling growth and Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis (FOM)) in melon were determined. According to the results of the first trial, the relative mycorrhizal dependency of F1 Super Magnum and Glomus intraradices combination was found one of the best results and this combination was used in the second study. The second trial was consisted of total 16 treatment groups (single, double and triple applications of AMF, HA, and whey), 8 disease (FOM) inoculated and 8 disease free ones. The FOM treatment which has only Fusarium inoculation had the highest rate of the disease (60.8 %). The treatment which had the highest suppression on Fusarium wilt (32.7%) was the single whey treatment. In general, it was determined that AMF, HA and whey had positive effect on disease suppression and growth of melon seedlings. Moreover, some applications had increased uptake of nutrients.
