Investigation of the Geological Features and Economic Potential of the Yurtbaşi Village Travertines (gürpinar, Van Eastern Anatolia)

Abstract

Bu tez çalışması kapsamında Yurtbaşı Köyü'nün (Van-Gürpınar) G-GD'sunda yüzeyleyen travertenlerin yanal ve düşey yayılımları ile birlikte kütlesel, malzeme ve fasiyes özellikleri belirlenerek bölgedeki travertenlerin ekonomik potansiyeli ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yurtbaşı Travertenleri bölgede yaklaşık 1 km2'lik bir alanda yayılım gösterir. 73 m olarak ölçülen traverten istifi, litotip özellikleri dikkate alınarak 5 fasiyese ayrılmıştır. Bu fasiyesler; breşik-ekstraklastlı, breşik-litoklastlı, kristalin kabuk, gaz boşluklu ve sal tipi traverten fasiyesleridir. Fasiyesler istif içerisinde ardalanmalıdır. Fasiyeslerin kalınlığı istif içerisinde 10 cm'den birkaç m'ye değişir ve en çok 7 m kalınlığa sahiptir Yurtbaşı Travertenleriden elde edilecek blokların boyutları, traverten kütlesi içerisinde yer alan 20°, 15°KB ve 16°, 85°KB konumlu 2 süreksizlik setinin kontrolündedir. Birinci süreksizlik setini düşük eğim derecesine sahip traverten fasiyeslerinin tabakalanma düzlemleri oluştururken ikinci süreksizlik seti daha yüksek eğim açısına sahip bölgesel tektonizma ile gelişmiş süreksizliklere benzer konumlu süreksizliklerdir. Hem sahip olduğu malzeme özellikleri bakımından hem de renk, desen ve homojen bir görünüm verebilen, ekonomik potansiyeli yüksek olan tek fasiyes sal tipi fasiyesidir. Bu fasiyes 1650000 m3 görünür/muhtemel rezerve sahiptir.

Within the scope of this thesis, (i) the lateral and vertical distributions of the travertines cropping out in the S-SE of Yurtbaşı village (Van-Gürpınar), (ii) their material and facies characteristics were determined, and (iii) the economic potential of the travertines in the region was revealed. Yurtbaşı travertines cover an area of approximately 1 km2 in the region. The true thickness of travertine succession is 70 m. Based on lithotype features, 5 facies is differentiated. These facies are; brecciated-extraclast, brecciated-lithoclast, crystalline crust, gas-void and raft type travertine facies. The thickness of the alternating facies varies from a few 10 cm to a few m (<6m) in the sequence. The dimensions of the blocks to be obtained from Yurtbaşı travertines are under the control of 2 discontinuity sets 20°, 15°NW and 16°, 85°NW. The first set is formed by the bedding planes of travertine facies with low inclination, while the second set has higher dip angle similar to structures developed by regional tectonism. Based on color, pattern, homogeneous appearance and material properties, the ratf facies is the only facies with high economic potential. This facies has 1650000 m3 of apparent/probable reserves.
