A Important Item Threating the Development of Turkish Economy: the Medium Income Trap

Abstract

Ülkelerin refah düzeyini belirleyen en önemli unsur gelir düzeyidir. Bu yüzden de ülkeler gelir seviyelerini sürekli olarak artırmayı hedeflerler. Böylelikle ülke vatandaşlarının müreffeh bir ülkede yaşayabilmeleri ve ihtiyaçlarını kolaylıkla giderebilmeleri mümkün olur. Ayrıca küresel dünyada gelişmişlik düzeyini belirleyen en önemli faktör gelir seviyesidir. Yüksek gelirli ülkelerin önemli bir kısmı gelişmişlik düzeyi açısından da iyi bir noktadadır. Bu durum gelirin ana hedef olarak belirlenmesinin yolunu açmaktadır. Ancak gelirin sürekli olarak artırılması aynı yapısal sistem içerisinde mümkün değildir. Belirli bir aşamadan sonra ülkede sistemi oluşturan tüm alt sistemlerde yapısal değişikliklerin gerçekleşmesi gerekmektedir. Bu yapısal değişiklikleri gerçekleştirebilen ülkeler üst gelir sınıfına geçerken diğerleri ise orta gelir tuzağı denilen iktisadi sınırlamanın içerisinde kalmaktadır. Türkiye uzun yıllardır orta gelir düzeyine sahip olan ülkeler arasında yer almaktadır. Çeyrek yüzyıldan uzun bir süredir Türkiye'nin yüksek gelir sınıfına sahip olan ülkeler arasına giremediği görülmektedir. Bu anlamda Türkiye'nin de bir süredir orta gelir tuzağı içerisinde yer aldığı söylenebilecektir. Türkiye'nin bu durumdan kurtulması ve yüksek gelir düzeyine sahip olması için birçok konuda reform uygulamasını gerçekleştirmesi gerekmektedir. Aksi takdirde orta gelir tuzağı Türkiye'nin kaderi olmaya devam edecektir.

The most important factor determining the welfare level of the countries is the income level. Therefore, countries aim to continuously increase their income levels. Thus, it is possible for the citizens of the country to live in a prosperous country and meet their needs easily. In addition, the most important factor determining the level of development in the global world is the income level. A significant number of high-income countries are also at a good point in terms of development level. This leads to the determination of revenue as the main target. However, it is not possible to increase the income continuously within the same structural system. After a certain stage, structural changes are required in all subsystems that make up the system in the country. Countries that are able to make these structural changes move to upper income class while others fall within the economic limitation called middle income trap. Turkey is among the countries with medium income level for many years. A quarter-century has seen for a long time were unable to enter Turkey from the list of countries with high income class. In this sense, Turkey has also said it will be able to take place some time in the middle income trap. To escape from this situation in Turkey to have a high level of income and the need to implement the reform implementation in many aspects. Otherwise, the middle-income trap will continue to be the fate of Turkey.
