Abstract
This research was conducted to determine the attitudes of hearing impaired and non-hearing secondary school students towards physical education and sports lessons. A total of 101 secondary school students, 51 of whom are deaf and 50 of whom are non-hearing, studying in Edremit, Tusba and Ipekyolu districts of Van, participated voluntarily. A questionnaire consisting of two parts was used as a data collection tool in the study. In the first part of the questionnaire, the personal information form created by the researcher was used, and in the second part, the 'Physical Education and Sports Lesson Attitude Scale' developed by Güllü (2007). SPSS 22.0 package program was used for statistical analysis of the data. The level of normality of the data was determined by the Shapiro-Wilk Test. The Mann Whitney U Test was used in the analysis of the data showing normal distribution, and the Kruskall-Wallis H Test was used in the comparison of the groups of three or more. According to the research findings, a significant difference was found in favor of hearing impaired students in their attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons of students with hearing impairment and those without hearing impairment (p<0.05). In the licensed athlete variable, a significant difference was determined between the attitudes of licensed and non-licensed athletes towards physical education and sports lessons in favor of non-licensed athletes (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons between the groups in terms of gender, education level of mother and father, and occupation of mother and father (p>0.05). As a result of the research, it was determined that hearing impaired secondary school students and secondary school students who are not licensed athletes have higher attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons.
