Evaluation of the Efficacy of Ozonated Olive Oil and Low-Level Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Pain in Individuals With Temporomandibular Disorder

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, TMB'li bireylerde ağrı tedavisinde ozonlanmış zeytinyağı ve düşük seviye lazer tedavisinin (LLLT) etkinliğini belirlemektir. Çalışmamız 14'ü erkek, 37'si kadın, yaşları 12 ile 50 arasında değişen, ortalama 26.18±8.47 olmak üzere toplam 51 hasta üzerinde yapıldı. Bu prospektif, randomize, bölünmüş ağızlı, çift kör çalışmada hastalara iki farklı tedavi yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Grup 1 (çalışma grubu, aynı hastanın bir tarafı): topikal ozonlanmış zeytinyağı + LLLT; Grup 2 (aynı hastanın diğer tarafı): Topikal ozonlu zeytinyağı + LLLT (aktif değil). Ozonlanmış zeytinyağı dört hafta boyunca günde üç kez topikal olarak uygulandı, LLLT temassız olarak 1 cm mesafede uygulandı ve hastalar dört hafta boyunca haftada üç seansa katıldı. Tedaviye başlamadan önce ve 6 seans lazer tedavisi sonrası hastalar değerlendirildi. (2 hafta), 12 lazer seansından sonra (1 ay) ve ilk seanstan 3 ay sonra. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre ikinci hafta puanlarında ozonlanmış zeytinyağı, LLLT ile ozonlanmış zeytinyağı kombinasyonundan daha etkiliydi (p=0,007; p < 0.01). Üçüncü ayın puanlarında, LLLT ve ozonlanmış zeytinyağı kombinasyonu, tek başına ozonlanmış zeytinyağından daha etkili ve dayanıklıydı (p=0.003; p < 0.01). Bu sonuçlar, tek başına veya LLLT ile birlikte ozonlanmış zeytinyağı ile tedavinin MP tedavisinde etkili olabileceğini göstermektedir.

The aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of ozonated olive oil and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in the treatment of pain in individuals with TMD. Our study was conducted on a total of 51 patients, 14 male and 37 female, patients' age ranged from 12 to 50, with a mean of 26.18±8.47. In this porspective, randomized, split-mouth, double-blind study, two different treatment methods were applied to the patients. Group 1 (study group, one side of the same patient): topical ozonated olive oil + LLLT; Group 2 (the other side of the same patient): Olive oil with topical ozone + LLLT (not activated). The ozonated olive oil was applied topically three times a day for four weeks, the LLLT was applied noncontact at a distance of 1 cm, and patients attended three sessions per week for four weeks. Before starting treatment, and after 6 sessions of laser therapy, the patients were evaluated. (2 weeks), after 12 laser sessions (1 month), and 3 months after the first session. According to the results of the study, in the second-week scores, olive oil that have been ozonated was more effective than the combination of LLLT with ozonated olive oil (p=0.007; p < 0.01). In the third month's scores, the combination of LLLT and ozonated olive oil was more effective and durable than ozonated olive oil alone (p=0.003; p < 0.01). These results demonstrate that treatment with ozonated olive oil alone or together with LLLT can be effective in the treatment of MP.
