Examining the Opinions of Candidates of Science Teachers on Distance Education During the Covid-19 Pandemic Process (case of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University)

Abstract

Eğitim kalitesini artırmak için öğretmen adaylarının mevcut eğitim modellerine yönelik tutumlarının bilinmesi oldukça önemlidir. Covid-19 ile birlikte uzaktan Eğitim modeli dünya çapında en çok benimsenen eğitim modeli olmuştur. Bu araştırmada fen bilimleri öğretmen adaylarının uzaktan eğitime yönelik tutumları incelenmiştir. Araştırma nicel veriler kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 2021-2022 eğitim ve öğretim yılına ait Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesinden 90 fen bilimleri öğretmen adayından oluşmaktadır. Öğretmen adayları için kişisel bilgi formu ve uzaktan eğitime yönelik tutum ölçeğinden oluşan bir anket yapılmıştır. Araştırmada Arslan (2021) tarafından geliştirilen 5 faktör ve 21 maddeden oluşan 'Covid-19 Salgını Döneminde Sunulan Uzaktan Eğitime Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği' ve bir anket formu kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada ölçeğin Cronbach Alpha değeri 0.800 olarak bulunmuştur. Nicel verilerin analizinde frekans ve bağımsız örneklem t-testi analiz yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. IBM SPSS 26 programı kullanılarak analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları, fen bilimleri öğretmen adayları yanıtlarının cinsiyete, sürekli bir internet durumuna, kişisel bilgisayara sahip olma durumuna ve pandemi öncesi uzaktan eğitim alma durumlarına göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediğini ortaya koymuştur. Öğretmen adaylarının yanıtları incelendiğinde üniversitelerin öğretmen adaylarının mağduriyetlerini gidermek için daha fazla çaba harcaması gerektiği ve üniversitelerin uzaktan eğitim için altyapılarını güçlendirmeleri gerektiği ortaya çıkmıştır.

In order to increase the quality of education, it is very important to know the attitudes of teacher candidates towards current education models. With Covid-19, the distance education model has become the most adopted education model worldwide. In this study, the attitudes of pre-service science teachers towards distance education were examined. The research was conducted using quantitative data. The sample of the research consists of 90 science teacher candidates from the Faculty of Education of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University for the 2021-2022 academic year. A questionnaire consisting of a personal information form and an attitude scale towards distance education was conducted for teacher candidates. In the research, 'Attitude Scale Towards Distance Education Offered During the Covid-19 Epidemic Period' consisting of 5 factors and 21 items developed by Arslan (2021) and a questionnaire including open-ended questions were used. The Cronbach Alpha value of the scale was calculated as 0.800. Frequency and independent sample t-test analysis methods were used in the analysis of quantitative data. Analyzes were carried out using the IBM SPSS 26 program. The results of the analysis revealed that the answers of pre-service science teachers did not differ significantly according to gender, constant internet status, having a personal computer, and receiving distance education before the pandemic. When the answers of the pre-service teachers were examined, it was revealed that the universities should make more efforts to eliminate the victimization of the pre-service teachers and that the universities should strengthen their infrastructure for distance education.
