Diagnosis, Seasonal Activity and Incidence of Trichostrongylidae Leiper, 1912 Species in Sheep in Van Province

Abstract

Van bölgesinde, koyunlarda Trichostrongylidae Leiper, 1912 türlerinin teşhisi, mevsimsel aktivitesi ve yayılışı, Y.Y.U. Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü Parazitoloji Anabilim Dalı Doktora Tezi, Van, 2004. Bu çalışma, Van yöresinde koyunlarda trichostrongylosis'e neden olan nematod türlerinin teşhis, mevsimsel aktivite ve insidensinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapıldı. Ocak 2001 -Aralık 2001 tarihleri arasında Van Belediye Mezbahasında kesilen koyunlardan abomazum ve ince bağırsak toplandı. Materyaller, 53 'ü dişi, 51'i erkek olmak üzere toplam 104 hayvandan alındı. Hayvanların abomazum ve ince bağırsağından elde edilen içeriklerden, örnekleme metodu ile erkek nematodlar toplanarak tür teşhisi yapıldı. İncelenen 104 koyunun 91 (%87.5)'inin mide-bağırsak nematodlarıyla enfekte olduğu tespit edildi. Abomazum ve ince bağırsaklarda yedi cinse ait toplam 12 tür belirlendi. Bütün hayvanların %85'i M.marshalli, %75'i O.circumcincta, %36'sı O.occidentalis, %10'u O.trifurcata, %15'i T.davtiani, %1'i C.mentulatus, %40'ı H.contortus, %33'ü T.ctxei, %75'i N.oiratianus, %65'i N.spathiger, %19'u N.abnormalis, %19'u T.probolurus ile enfekte bulundu. Enfekte hayvanların abomazum ve ince bağırsağından toplam 213.820 adet erkek nematod elde edildi. Bütün türler içerisinde en yüksek sayıda saptanan türün abomazumda O.circumcincta (%45.23), ince bağırsakta N.oiratianus (%65.73) olduğu görüldü. Genç koyunların %88'inin, erişkinlerin %87'sinin, dişilerin %89'unun ve erkeklerin %86'sınm farklı türlerle enfekte olduğu saptandı. Hayvanlarda belirlenen parazit sayısı dikkate alınarak türlere göre enfeksiyon durumu değerlendirildiğinde, yalnızca birkaç hayvanda görülen şiddetli enfeksiyon haricinde, enfeksiyonların genellikle hafif ya da orta şiddette olduğu belirlendi. Bütün hayvanlarda mevsimsel olarak parazit yükü kış aylarında ve sonbahar ortalarından sonra düşük, ilkbahar ve yaz aylan ile sonbahar başlarında yüksek bulundu. Hayvanların genelinde en düşük parazit miktarı Şubat ayında, en yüksek parazit miktarı ise Eylül ayında saptandı. Gençlerin parazit yükünün erişkinlerden, dişilerin parazit yükünün erkeklerden daha fazla olduğu görüldü. En yüksek parazit oranı gençlerde Ağustos ayında, erişkinlerde Eylül ayında görüldü. Hayvanların gerek abomazumunda ve gerekse ince bağırsağında tespit edilen parazitlerin aylara göre değişiklik gösteren oram üzerine nem ve sıcaklığın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisi olduğu belirlendi. Diagnosis, seasonal activity and incidence of Trichostrongylidae Leiper,1912 species in sheep in Van province, University of Yüzüncü Yıl Health Sciences Institute, PhD Department of Parasitology, Van, 2004. This study was performed to determine of nematod species causing trichostrongylosis and their seasonal activities and incidence in sheep living in Van province. Small intestine and abomasum samples of sheep slaughtered in the Van municipal slaughterhouse between January and December 2001 were collected. The materials were taken from total 104 animals, which were 53 female and 51 male. Male nematodes were collected from the contents of abomasum and small intestine using the sampling method and species were diagnosed. Gastro-intestinal nematode infection was observed in 91 (87.5%) sheep of the investigated 104 ones. Twelve different species belongs to seven genera were detected from the abomasum and small intestine samples. All animals were found infected with M.marshalli (85%), O.circumcincta (75%), O.occidentalis (36%), O.trifurcata (10%), T.davtiani (15%), C.mentulatus (1%), H.contortus (40%), T.axei (33%), N.oiratianus (75%), N.spathiger (65%), N.abnormalis (19%) and Zprobolurus (19%). A total of 213.820 male nematodes were obtained from abomasum and small intestine. The parasites seen in the organs at the highest ratio were O.circumcincta (45.23%) in the abomasum and N.oiratianus (65.73%) in the small intestine. The percentage of the different nematode species infected young sheep was 87%, adult sheep was 87%, female animals 89% and male animals 86%. When the number of parasite determined in the animals was taken into consideration in the evaluation of the status of the infections, in exception of only a few severe infected animals, mainly animals had moderate or mild infection. Seasonal parasite load of all animals was low in months of winter and at the middle of autumn and high in spring, summer and at the beginning of autumn. The lowest parasite load was observed in February and the highest was observed in September. It was observed that the younger animals load higher parasites than the adults and the females load higher than the males. The highest parasite rate seen in young sheep was in August, in adult ones were in September. Effects of heat and moisture had statistically a significant effect on the differences of parasites rate of months obtained either in the abomasums or in small intestine.
