Abstract
This study was conducted on some local walnut genotypes grown in the Ağartı region of Tuşba district, Van province, as well as on Fernor and Fernette walnut varieties. In the study, the morphological characteristics of walnut trees, along with phenological traits and fruit feature, were evaluated according to UPOV criteria. Under the ecological conditions of the Ağartı region in Tuşba district, Van province, 12 walnut genotypes with superior yield and fruit quality characteristics were identified. The weight of in-shell nuts ranged from 10.98 to 23.86 g, kernel weights ranged from 5.18 to 10.36 g, and the yield ratios were between 5.18% and 10.36%. The Fernor and Fernette walnut varieties grown in the region were found to be suitable for the local ecology in terms of performance. Since the walnut orchards included in the study, comprising a few Fernor trees and their pollinator Fernette, are only 5-6 years old, conducting a comprehensive evaluation is currently not feasible. Nevertheless, their early adaptation has been observed to be promising.
