Investigation of Pre Service Physics Teachers'conceptual Understanding Levels Concerning Quantum Mechanics
Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to explore pre-service Physics teachers? conceptual understanding and conceptual understanding levels concerning quantum mechanics. For the purpose of the study to obtain detailed information, qualitative research method was used. The participants of the study were 4th and 5th grade preservice physics teachers from the Department of Physics Education Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education at Yüzüncü Yıl University who are studying at 4th and 5th class on the academic year of 2010-2011. In this research data was obtained using the semi-structured interview method. Students' conceptual understanding levels were determined using phenomenology which is a qualitative research design. As a result, the analysis has been identified students' conceptual understanding of quantum mechanics. The research will provide in the field of physics education researchers for these concepts to understand more detail emerging from thoughts of the students. To overcome the challenges of providing a conceptual understanding of quantum mechanics in the direction of mathematical studies should be performed.Key words: Qualitative data analysis, Phenomenology, Conceptual understanding, Pre-service Physics Teachers, Quantum Mechanics.
