Determining Mental Health Professionals' Perceptions of Homosexual Clients: a Scale Development Study

Abstract

Bu araştırmada ruh sağlığı uzmanlarının, eşcinsel danışanlara yönelik algılarının belirlenmesi amacıyla bir ölçme aracı geliştirilmiş, ardından ölçme aracının güvenilirlik ve geçerliliği sınanmıştır. Ölçeğin madde havuzunu oluşturmak için literatür ışığında bu konuda daha önce yurtiçinde ve yurt dışında geliştirilmiş benzer ölçekler incelenmiş, konuya ilişkin kitap ve makaleler okunmuş, ruh sağlığı uzmanlarına kompozisyon yazdırılmış ve 50 maddelik bir havuz oluşturulmuştur. Bu maddeler uzman görüşü sonrası 46 maddeye düşmüş ve ölçeğin pilot çalışması 239 ruh sağlığı uzmanı ile 46 madde üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin, 29 maddelik tutum, bilgi ve beceri olmak üzere 3 faktörlü bir yapı aldığı görülmüştür. 3 faktörden oluşan bu ölçek toplam varyansın %61,773'ünü açıklamaktadır. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi için asıl çalışma ölçeğin 29 maddelik son hali ile 403 ruh sağlığı uzmanı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin 3 boyutlu yapısının doğrulandığı ve uyum kriterlerinin uygun düzeyde olduğu bulunmuştur ( X2 / Sd: 3, 163; RMSEA: .73; CFI: .97; GFI: .93; AGFI; .90; NNFI; .97; NFI: .97; RMR: .71; SRMR: .60 ). Ölçeğin güvenilirliği cronbach alpha katsayısı ile hesaplanmış ve cronbach alpha değerleri tutum faktörü için. 94, bilgi faktörü için. 93, beceri faktörü için. 82 ve genel ölçek için. 94 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu verilerden yola çıkılarak ruh sağlığı uzmanlarının eşcinsel danışanlara yönelik algılarının belirlenmesi amacıyla geliştirilen Eşcinsellik Algı Ölçeğinin, 29 madde ve 3 boyutlu yapısı ile güvenilir ve geçerli bir ölçek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

In this study, a measurement tool was developed to determine the perceptions of mental health professionals towards homosexsual clients. Then, the realibility and validity of the measurement tool was tested. In order to create the item pool of the scale, similar scales previously developed in Turkey and abroad on this subject were examined in the light of the literature, books and articles on the subject were read, a composition was written for the target audience and a pool of 50 items was created. These items dropped to 46 items after expert opinion and the pilot study of the scale was conducted with 46 items with 239 mental health experts. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale took the form of the 29 items with 3 factors. Factors in the scale are named as attitude, knowledge and skill. This scale consisting of 3 factors explains 61,773% of the total variance. For confirmatory factor analysis, the main study was carried out with 29 items and 403 mental health experts. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, the 3-dimensional structure of the scale was verified and the fit criteria were found to be appropriate ( X2 / Sd: 3, 163; RMSEA: .73; CFI: .97; GFI: .93; AGFI; .90; NNFI; .97; NFI: .97; RMR: .71; SRMR: .60 ). The reliability of the scale was calculated with the cronbach alpha and the cronbach alpha values were calculated as .94 for the attitude factor, .93 for the knowledge factor, .82 for the skill factor and .94 for the general scale. Based on this information, it can be concluded that the Homosexuality Perception Scale is a reliable and valid scale that can be used to determine the perceptions of mental health professionals.
