Determination of Yield and Quality Characteristics of Some Safflower (carthamus Tinctorius L.) Varieties Grown Under Hakkari-Yüksekova Conditions
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine yield and quality components of some safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) varieties in Hakkari/Yüksekova ecological condition. The experimental design was randomized block design with three replications. Ten safflower varieties (Remzibey, Linas, Yenice, Balcı, Göktürk, Dinçer, Hasankendi, Olein, Koç and Safir) were used as plant material. The result of this study showed that the investigated plant parameters were significant among the tested safflower varieties. According to the results; seed yield (168.1 kg/da) and crude oil content (33.0 %) were greater in Balcı variety, crude oil yield (48.9 and 49.1 kg/da, respectively) were greater in Balcı and Linas varieties, plant height (62.7 cm) and first branch height (47.7 cm) were greater in Yenice variety, number of heads per plant (8.0 pieces) was greater in Olein variety, head diameter were greater in Olein (23.36 mm), Hasankendi (22.74 mm), Koç (22.54 mm), Safir (22.18 mm) and Dinçer (22.18 mm) varieties. In terms of 1000 seed weight, varieties of Linas, Dinçer and Balcı (40.78, 40.23 and 40.03 g, respectively) were superior. The results showed that safflower varieties of Balcı and Linas can be successfully cultivated under Hakkari/Yüksekova conditions.
