The Relationship Between Pre-Service Elementary School Teachers Self-Efficacy Perceptions and Anxity Towards Mathematics Teaching

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematik öğretimine yönelik öz- yeterlik algıları ve kaygılarının cinsiyete ve öğrenim görülen üniversite sınıf seviyesine göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini belirlemek ve araştırma konusu olan öz-yeterlik algıları ile kaygıları arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir.Araştırmanın örneklemini 2011?2012 öğretim yılı Akdeniz Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Sınıf Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalında öğrenim gören birinci, ikinci, üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri 308 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Bu araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan ?Kişisel Bilgi Formu?, Enochs, Smith ve Huinker'in (2000) tarafından geliştirilen ve Çakıroğlu (2000) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan ?Matematik Öğretimine Yönelik Öz-Yeterlik Algısı Ölçeği? Peker (2006) tarafından geliştirilen ?Matematik Öğretimine Yönelik Kaygı Ölçeği? kullanılmıştır.Araştırma sonucunda sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematik öğretimine yönelik öz-yeterlik algı düzeyleri cinsiyete ve öğrenim görülen sınıf seviyesine göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermektedir. Diğer taraftan Sınıf öğretmeni adalarının matematik öğretimine yönelik kaygı düzeyleri cinsiyete göre bir farklılık göstermezken, sınıf seviyesi değişkeni bakımından anlamlı farklılık göstermektedir. Ayrıca, sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematik öğretimine yönelik öz-yeterlik algıları ile kaygıları arasında negatif yönde anlamlı ilişki olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.Anahtar kelimeler: Sınıf öğretmeni adayları, öz-yeterlik algısı, matematik öğretimine yönelik öz-yeterlik algısı, kaygı, matematik öğretimine yönelik kaygı.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate whether pre-service elementary school teachers? self-efficacy perceptions and attitudes differ with respect to gender, and the university grade level and to examine the relationship between their self-efficacy perception and attitudes towards mathematics teaching.The sample of this study includes 308 first, second, third and forth grade students in Akdeniz University Elementary Education Departments of Faculties of Education in 2011?2012 semester. In the present research context, the data were collected through the ?Personal Information Form? prepared by the researcher, ?Mathematics Teaching Efficacy Belief Scale? developed by Enochs, Çakıroğlu (2000). Also, ?Mathematics Teaching Anxiety Scale? developed by Peker (2006) was used in this study.The finding of this research indicates that the pre-service elementary school teachers? mathematics teaching efficacy beliefs differentiate with respect to gender and university grade level. On the other hand, their mathematics teaching anxiety levels do not differentiate with respect to gender but it differentiates with respect to university grade level. The results also showed that there were high and negative correlation between their mathematics teaching efficacy beliefs and anxiety.Keywords: Pre-service elementary school teachers, self-efficacy belief, self-efficacy beliefs towards mathematics teaching, anxiety, anxiety towards mathematics teaching.
