Determining the Opinions of 8th Grade Students on the Writing Process and Examining the Turkish Textbook in This Context

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin yazma sürecine ilişkin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi ve Türkçe ders kitabındaki yazma etkinliklerinin bu bağlamda incelenmesidir. Bu amaç çerçevesinde nicel ve nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Öğrenci görüşlerini belirlemek için nicel araştırma yöntemi veri toplama tekniklerinden anket kullanılmış, Türkçe ders kitabındaki etkinlikleri incelemek için ise nitel araştırma yöntemi veri toplama tekniklerinden doküman inceleme yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya, 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında Hakkâri ili Yüksekova ilçesindeki devlet okullarına devam eden 352 8. Sınıf öğrencisi dahil edilmiştir. Yazma etkinliklerinin incelendiği Türkçe ders kitabı ise bu öğrencilere okutulan 8. Sınıf Türkçe ders kitabıdır. Anket yoluyla elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistik (frekans, yüzde, ortalama), t-testi ve korelasyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Doküman inceleme yoluyla elde edilen veriler ise betimsel analize tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre 8. Sınıf öğrencilerinin yazma sürecindeki davranışları orta düzeyde (kısmen) gerçekleştirdikleri belirlenmiştir. Yazma süreçleri ile ilgili görüşler genel olarak incelendiğinde kız ve erkek öğrenciler arasında kız öğrenciler lehine anlamlı fark olduğu görülmektedir. Görüş alma formunu oluşturan kategoriler arasında ise anlamlı ve olumlu yönde bir ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Türkçe ders kitabındaki yazma etkinlikleri incelendiğinde planlı yazma süreçlerine yer verildiği fakat basamaklardaki uygulamalarla ilgili birtakım eksiklikler olduğu belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçların yazma eğitimi sürecine, Türkçe ders kitaplarının hazırlanmasına ve özellikle alandaki diğer araştırmacılara önemli bir katkı sağlaması beklenmektedir.

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of 8th grade students about the writing process and to examine the writing activities in the Turkish textbook in this context. For this purpose, quantitative and qualitative research methods were used. Questionnaire, one of the quantitative research method data collection techniques, was used to determine the students' views, and document analysis, one of the qualitative research method data collection techniques, was used to examine the activities in the Turkish textbook. 352 8th grade students attending public schools in Yüksekova district of Hakkari province in the 2021-2022 academic year were included in the study. The Turkish textbook in which writing activities are examined is the 8th grade Turkish textbook taught to these students. In the analysis of the data obtained through the questionnaire, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean), t-test and correlation analyzes were performed. The data obtained through document analysis were subjected to descriptive analysis. According to the results obtained in the research, it was determined that the 8th grade students performed the behaviors in the writing process at a moderate level (partially). When the opinions about writing processes are examined in general, it is seen that there is a significant difference between male and female students in favor of female students. It has been determined that there is a significant and positive relationship between the categories that make up the opinion form. When the writing activities in the Turkish textbook were examined, it was determined that planned writing processes were included, but there were some deficiencies regarding the applications in the steps. It is expected that the results obtained in the study will make an important contribution to the writing education process, the preparation of Turkish textbooks and especially to other researchers in the field.
