Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) oriented psycho-education program on the psychological flexibility, resilience, and depressive symptom levels of adolescents. The study group of the research consisted of adolescents aged between 15-17 attending the 10th and 11th grades. In the study, a 2x3 split-plot experimental design with pretest, posttest, follow-up test and control group were used. To collect data, the Avoidance and Fusion Questionnaire –Youth 8 (AFQ-Y8), Resiliency Attitude and Skills Profile (PSTBS), and the Children's Anxiety and Revised Children's Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) form were used. Data collection tools were applied to 312 adolescents. Among the adolescents who completed the questionnaire, 28 participants with low levels of psychological flexibility and resilence, and high levels of depression were randomly assigned to the experimental (n=14) and control (n=14) groups. Within the scope of the research, while the 8-session ACT-based psycho-education program was applied to the experimental group, educational and vocational guidance activities were carried out with the control group. At the end of the intervention program, the posttests were applied to the experimental and control groups, and after 5 weeks the follow-up tests were applied. The obtained data were analyzed with the SPSS-26 program. In the analysis of the data obtained from these measurements, the two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique for repeated measurements was used to determine whether there were statistically significant differences between the measurements and the groups. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the ACT-oriented psycho-education program was statistically effective in increasing the level of psychological flexibility and reducing depressive symptoms, and the effect continued in the follow-up, while the change in the level of psychological resilience was not statistically significant. These results were discussed in the light of the related literature and some suggestions were presented.
