Rhyton in the Achaemenid Period Within the Scope of Examples From Eastern Anatolia Development and Typhology

Abstract

Rhyton formu MÖ II. binin başlarından daha öncesine giden bir kullanım geleneğine sahiptir. İçki kabı olmanın ötesinde libasyon gibi ritüel uygulamalarında kullanılan bu kabın her kültüre ve coğrafyaya göre değişen bir üretim üslubu söz konusudur. Genellikle metal, seramik ve cam örnekleri ile karşılaştığımız formun ilk olarak ne şekilde kullanıma girdiği, kendi içindeki form gelişim ve değişiminin nasıl olduğu araştırılması gereken bir husus olarak önem taşımaktadır. Rhytonlar Neolitik dönemden itibaren bir kullanım geleneğine sahip olup muhtelif amaçlarla kullanılmıştır. Genel olarak üretkenlik, bolluk ve çoğalmayı simgeleyen hayvan figürleri ile şekillendirilen bu törensel içki kaplarının üzerinde sıvının dışarı akışını sağlayan akıtma/boşaltma deliklerine veya küçük emziklere rastlanır. Rhyton yapımı Asur Ticaret Kolonileri ve Hitit Çağı'nda en yoğun dönemlerini yaşamıştır. Hitit Çağı'ndan sonra ise Roma dönemine kadar azalarak devam etmiştir. Özellikle Akhaimenid etkili rhytonlarla ilgili çalışmalar oldukça sınırlı olduğundan Akhaimenid Dönem rhyton formuna yönelik yayın ve değerlendirmeleri bir araya toplayarak, formun işlevsel ve tipolojik niteliğini araştırmak ve ilk kullanım geleneğinin bağlı olduğu kültür alanını belirginleştirmek öncelikli amacı oluşturmaktadır her çeşit arkeolojik malzemedeki betimlemeler bu çalışmada ele alınmıştır.

Rhyton form BC. II.bin has a tradition of use that goes back to the beginning of the year. In addition to being a drinking vessel, this container, which is used in ritual practices such as religious libation, has a production style that varies according to each culture and geography. It is important to investigate how the form, which we usually encounter with metal and ceramic samples, first came into use, and how the form development and change in itself is. Rhytons have a tradition of use since the Neolithic period and have been used for various purposes. Generally shaped by animal figures symbolizing productivity, abundance and proliferation, these ceremonial drink containers are provided with drain holes or small teats that allow the outflow of liquid. The Rhyton-built Assyrian Trade Colonies and the Hittite Period were the most intense. After the Hittite period, it continued to decline until the Roman period. In addition to the fact that the rhytons used in ritual practices such as religious libation besides being a drinking vessel, especially the studies on rhytons with Akhaimenid effect are quite limited, collecting publications and evaluations for the Akhaimenid Period Rhyton form together, investigating the functional and typological nature of the form and clarifying the cultural field to which the first use tradition depends. The purpose of this study is to describe the descriptions of all kinds of archaeological materials.
