The Levels of Vitamins, Antioxidants and Heavy Metals of Stomach Cancer Patients Before and After Treatment
Abstract
Stomach cancer is one of the most important disease threaten human life, has different aethiology and prognosis and effect the vitamin, antioxidant and mineral compound in body. This study has been done on the patient had diagnozed as stomach cancer in Y.Y.U. Faculty of Medicine Research Hospital Oncology Clinics. 30 healthy control, 32 male and 15 female total 47 patient with stomach adenonocarcinoma, totally 77 subject, were used as research materials. Blood samples were taken from all patients before and after chemotherapy and from controls. Detailed biochemical analysis were done. Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu, Cd, Pb, Ca, Co, amount and ceruloplasmin, GSH-Px, SOD activity retinol acetate and ?-tocopherol levels were determined in blood or sera according to the analytical procedure. Avarese values and differences between three groups were estimated statistical importances were found in Mg (p?0.001), Fe (p?0.05), Ca (p?0.01) differences. All other parameters had shown increases or decreases but no statistical importance were dedected. Ceruloplasmin (p?0.0001) and GSH-Px levels were decreased in untreated groups compared to controls, but SOD, retinol acetate (p?0.07) and ?-tocopherol (p?0.05) levels were increased in patients with stomach cancer, before chemotherapy. As conclusion, differences between blood element vitamin and antioxidant levels were estimated between controls and patients with stomach cancer before and after treatment. Especially serum Mg level decreases were found after cisplatin application, serum ceruloplasmin level decreases and SOD activity increases were determined. Here, It was presented a significant laboratory data for clinician to evaluate stomach cancer and to see benefits chemotherapotic application. Key Words: Antioxidants, Human, Stomach cancer, Minerals, Vitamins, Heavy metal
