Iraq's Attitude in the Arab - Israeli Conflict 1973-1979

Abstract

'Irak'ın 1973-1979 Yılları Arasında Arap-İsrail Çatışmasına Karşı Tutumu' başlıklı çalışmamız, giriş, üç ana bölüm ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümde, Arap-İsrail arasındaki çatışmanın başlangıcı ve çatışmaların artması anlatılmıştır. Bu aşamada Arapların mağlup olduğu üç savaş meydana gelmiştir. Bu savaşların olayları ve yenilgilerin sebepleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Birinci Bölümde, Ekim 1973 Savaşı olaylarını ele almaktadır. Bu bağlamda savaşan tarafların hazırlıkları, savaşın sebepleri ve amaçları, Sovyetler Birliği ve ABD'nin bu savaştaki rolü, Arap ülkelerinin İsrail'e yardım eden ülkelere uyguladığı petrol ambargosunun uygulanması ve enerji kaynaklarının koz olarak kullanılması açıklanmıştır. Ayrıca Irak'ın siyasi, askeri ve ekonomik rolü üzerinde durulmuştur. İkinci bölümde Lübnan krizi, İsrail'in ülkeye saldırısı ve Irak'ın Lübnan'daki duruma karşı tutumuna değinilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, İsrail-Mısır barış süreci, iki taraf arasındaki sözleşme ve anlaşmaların detayları, ABD'nin bü süreçteki rolü, Irak'ın sert tutumu, Bağdat'ta Arap Zirvesi konferansının düzenlenmesi, Mısır'ın cezalandırılması ve Arap-İsrail çatışması çerçevesinde çıkarılması gibi konular ele alınmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda elde edilen sonuçlar sunulmuştur. Bu araştırmada başta Irak gazeteleri olmak üzere Türkçe, Arapça, İngilizce ve Kürtçe kaynaklardan yararlanmıştır.

Our study titled 'Iraq's Attitude Towards Arab-Israeli Conflict Between 1973-1979', consists of introduction, three main parts and conclusion. In the introduction, the beginning of the conflict between the Arabs and Israel and the increase in the conflicts are explained. At this stage, three wars took place in which the Arabs were defeated. Information was given about the events of these wars and the reasons for the defeats. The first chapter of this thesis dealt with a accidents of the October 1973 War. In this context, the preparations of the warring parties, the reasons and aims of the war, the role of the Soviet Union and the USA in this war, the implementation of the oil embargo (1973 oil crisis) applied by the Arab countries to the countries helping Israel and the use of energy resources as leverage are explained. In addition, the political, military and economic role of Iraq was emphasized. The second chapter, the Lebanon crisis, Israel's attack on the country (Operation Litani) and Iraq's attitude towards the situation in Lebanon are mentioned. The third chapter, the Israeli-Egyptian peace process, the details of the Treaties and Accords between the two parties, the role of the USA in this process, Iraq's harsh attitude, Issues such as the organization of the Arab Summit conference in Baghdad (1978 Arab League summit), the punishment of Egypt and its removal within the framework of the Arab-Israeli conflict were discussed.
