Abstract
Magic and magical practices that are as old as human history emerged long before the ephemeral-celestial religions. These ancient practices still exist today despite changing religions, societies and geographies. Despite all the developments that radically transformed life such as modernization, urbanization, digital age, and globalization, it has undergone some form changes as an archetypal phenomenon, and preserves its vitality in a defiance of the spirit of the time. The phenomenon of magic, which is anachronistically still its practitioner, demander, rituals and therefore a market, adds color to the eclectic, hybrid, carnivalesque, playful, amorphous atmosphere of the postmodern age we live in. Of course, it has projections and effects in many areas from literature to folklore, from painting to theater, from cinema to music, from culture to sociology, from theology to social psychology. On the other hand, magic practices take place seriously in print and visual media as well as in social settings. Magic and related practices are seen in many societies. However, it varies according to the social, cultural, economic and religious structure of the society. Depending on the factors listed, the prevalence and intensity of magic in society also varies. In this study, magical and magical applications will be determined and the study will be limited to the province of Van. The existence and the reasons for existence of the magic practices, which are strictly prohibited in the Islamic belief, in a city where a great majority of them are Muslim will be tried to be revealed. In addition, the historical background of magic, its place in Judaism, Christianity and Islamic religions and its historical background will be discussed.
