Planting Design Suggetions for Preventing Stress for Indoor Environments of University Buildings: the Case of Van Yuzuncu Yil University

Abstract

Bu çalışmada eğitim ortamlarında yapılabilecek bitkisel tasarımların öğrenci ve öğreticilerin streslerini azaltmaya yönelik etkilerinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada Hartig tarafından geliştirilmiş olan 26 maddelik Algılanan Onarıcılık Ölçeğine yönelik bir ön çalışma gerçekleştirilmiş ve ölçeğe faktör analizi uygulanarak ölçeğin 5 maddeden oluşan indirgenmiş versiyonu elde edilmiştir. Bunun yanında farklı bitkisel tasarım senaryolarıyla farklı iç mekan tipleri için mekan görselleri sanal ortamda oluşturulmuş ve bunlar indirgenen ölçekle beraber üniversite iç mekanlarının kullanıcısı olan öğretim görevlileri ve öğrencilere sorulmuştur. Bunun için 157 kişinin katılımıyla bir online anket çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları göstermektedir ki bitkili ortam görselleri, çoğunlukla, bitkisiz versiyonlara göre anlamlı şekilde daha çok tercih edilmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında indirgenen beş maddeden sadece 'burada öğelerin nsaıl düzenlendiğini görmek kolay' önermesinde bitkili versiyonlarla bitkisiz versiyon arasında anlamlı fark ortaya çıkmamıştır. Diğer dört madde de ve beğenide bütün mekanlarda bitkili versiyonlar ile bitkisiz versiyonlar arasında tercihlerde anlamlı fark tespit edilmiştir. Bu bulgular bağlamında iç mekan sınıflarında bitki kullanılmasının daha onarıcı bir ortam yarattığı sonuç olarak söylenebilir. Çalışmanın onarıcı ortamların eğitim yapısı iç mekanlarında uygulanabilirliği açısından katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of planting design that can be made in education environments on reducing the stress of students and teachers. In the study, a preliminary study of the Perceived Restoration Scale developed by Hartig, and the reduced version of the scale will be used by applying factor analysis to the scale. It is thought that the fewer items that can be obtained by reducing the scale can be used to measure the Restorativeness in interior spaces. In addition, the space photos for different interior types with different plant designs will be created in a virtual platform and these will be asked to the lecturers and students who the users of the classroom are with the reduce scale. For this an online questionnaire has been done with 157 participants. Results showed that preferences of all items except one item are statistically significantly different in term of the between photos with planting design and without planting design and all the photos with planting design are more preferred by users. So, classrooms with planting design are more restorative than the classroom without planting design. It is thought that the study will contribute to the applicability of restorative environments in educational interiors.
