Investigation of Physical Activity Levels, Body Compositions and Life Forms of Secondary School Students (private-Public)
Abstract
Bu araştırma özel okul ve devlet okullarında okuyan ortaokul öğrencilerinin fiziksel aktivite düzeylerini, vücut kompozisyonlarını ve yaşam biçimlerini incelemek aynı zamanda karşılaştırılmalı bir çalışma ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın evrenini Bitlis'in Tatvan ilçesine bağlı Cumhuriyet Devlet Ortaokulundan 60 kadın, 62 erkek, Özel Okyanus Koleji Ortaokulundan 59 kadın, 56 erkek olmak üzere toplam 237 ortaokul öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. 8. Sınıf erkek öğrencilerin gittikleri okullara göre fiziksel aktivite alt boyutunda farklılık bulurken diğer boyutlar arasında anlamlı farklılık bulunamamıştır. Anahtar sözcükler: fiziksel aktivite, pedometre, adolesan, sağlıklı yaşam, vücut kompozisyonu.
This study was conducted to examine the physical activity levels, body composition and life styles of middle school students studying in private and public schools, as well as to present a comparative study. The universe of the study consists of a total of 237 middle school students, including 60 women, 62 men from Cumhuriyet State Secondary School, 59 women and 56 men from the Private Ocean College Secondary School in Tatvan district of Bitlis. During the data collection phase, Pender et al. The Adolescent Lifestyle questionnaire, which was developed by and whose reliability and validity was made, was used. The method of measuring the physical activities of the students participating in the study with a daily pedometer was applied. In order to determine body composition, fat ratios were measured with a bioelectrical impedance device, and body mass index (kg / height2) was calculated using height and weight measurements. The students were asked to hang the pedometer on their necks and keep them in their clothes, and it was stated that they should wear the pedometer during all waking hours except bathing and swimming. Pedometers remain on for seven working days. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data. Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used to test normality, independent t-test for paired comparisons for normally distributed data, one-way ANOVA test when more than two variables were compared, Mann-Whitney U test for paired comparisons for non-parametric variables, Kruskal - Wallis test for comparison of more than two variables. was used. In this study, the significance level was determined as (p <0.05). While there was a statistically significant difference in the weekly steps and weekday steps of female students according to the schools, no difference was found in the weekly steps. While there was a significant difference in weekly steps and weekday steps according to the schools they attend, no significant difference was found in the weekend steps (p> 0.05). When sub-dimensions of Adolescent Life Style were examined, no significant difference was found between sub-dimensions according to the schools that female students attended. While 8th grade male students found a difference in the physical activity sub-dimension according to the schools they attended, no significant difference was found between the other dimensions. Keywords: physical activity, pedometer, adolescent, healthy life, body composition.
