The Characteristics of Growth, Fattening Performance, Slaughter and Carcass at Periods and Different Fattening Programme of Pure Morkaraman and Kivircik X Morkaraman (F1) Lambs
Abstract
2. ABSTRACT The objective of this experiment was to obtain good quality slaughter lambs via crossbreeding fat-tail Morkaraman ewes with fattless tailed Kıvırcık rams. The data were obtained from 37 Morkaraman and 63 Kıvırcık x Morkaraman (Fi) lambs in suckling period, from 63 Morkaraman and 54 Kıvırcık x Morkaraman (Fi) lambs in fattening period after weaning and six lambs from each genotypes for body measurements, slaughter and carcass characteristics. There was no significant differences between each genotype groups for birth weight and weaning weight. There was a significant difference between periods (p<0.05) and genotypes (p<0.01) on cold dressing percentage among treatment groups, but there was no significant differences between different feeding groups. Percentage of shoulder, leg, loin and back in total carcass were significantly different (p<0.01) among treatment groups. While there were significant differences between treatment groups on percentages of meat and bone in total carcass, percentage of fat in total carcass was significantly different (p<0.01) among different genotypes.
